Overton County Middle School Wrestling Team is off to a strong start this season. This is the team’s first season and they have come each time ready to win. The team has participated in three tournaments so far and has had someone place in each one.

Coach Chase Looper stated, “We’re just looking to grow as wrestlers and these boys as young men. I’m not looking for wins or losses. I’m just looking for a strong work ethic, good attitude, and effort. We have shown that so far, and I believe if we continue to work as hard as we have so far, this program’s future is very bright.”

To this point, Jordan Geist has placed 1st, 2nd, and 2nd. Clayton Loftis placed 3rd in a beginner tournament. Landon Shaw placed 6th at Chattanooga last weekend. Will White, Joshua Geist, Lukas Houser, and Clayton Loftis have competed so far. Wyatt Manthey, Grayson Manthey, and Kaden Weitzel have yet to compete.

Jordan Geist has a chance to win state this year at 152 pounds and is one of the top ranked wrestlers at that weight. Coach Looper shared that Jordan Geist, Joshua Geist, and Landon Shaw all have potential to do big things this year.

“The team has been doing very well, especially as a first year program. They’re getting better every time they step on the mat. That’s all I ask for,” Coach Looper added.

The team is set to wrestle Saturday, Jan. 15 in the Music City Brawl in Murfreesboro.
