Overton County Jr. Lady Wildcats soccer team took a road trip to take on Macon County on Friday, Aug. 27 in Lafayette to try to remain unbeaten on the season.
Macon was coming off a tough loss against Cumberland County the week prior and was hoping to get back on track against the Jr. Lady Wildcats. Overton County was wanting to remain unbeaten and improve their season record to 5-0 going into the difficult part of schedule.
The Jr. Lady Cats began the game with several good scoring opportunities, but were not able to capitalize and put any points on the scoreboard. This enabled Macon to take advantage of an early defensive mistake by Overton County and put up the first score of the game middle way into first half, going up 1-0.
Macon took the lead into halftime, even though the Jr. Lady Wildcats controlled time of possession and had multiple shots on goal, but could not get the ball into the back of the net.
Overton County held Macon County in the second half to very few offensive opportunities. Katey Beason solidified the defensive back line along with Lauren Storie keeping Macon County’s best scoring threat held in check.
Overton would remain scoreless throughout the second half until Saige Howard scored from the right side to sneak a goal past the goalkeeper for the first goal, with 7 minutes remaining in the game. This energized the Jr. Lady Wildcats and Bella Burkett added the game winning goal with 3 minutes remaining to give LA a 2-1 win.
Overton County was scheduled to be back in action on the road against unbeaten Smith County on Monday, Aug. 30.
