Overton County Jr. Lady Wildcats opened the soccer season Friday, Aug. 9 at Livingston Academy soccer field with a 4-0 win against DeKalb County.
This was also the season opener for the DeKalb Lady Saints. Both teams were coming off very good records from last season and were beginning the new season with many new faces.
The first half would prove to be what one would expect in the first game of the new season. Both teams fought the entire first half with lack of timing and keeping ball possession. Overton County Middle School Jr. Lady Wildcats found different times to be able to get shots on goal, but were unsuccessful.
Midway through the first half, the home team was able to get on the scoreboard and took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
OCMS would come out in the final half with much more intensity and controlled the entire 30 minutes. Lauren Storie would provide the fuel to ignite the Lady Cats all the way from the defensive end with a breakaway goal to put Overton County up 2-0.
Ella Copeland would also follow up with her own breakaway goal to put the contest out of reach. She continued minutes later with an assist off a corner kick to Selah Howard for one of her two goals on the night.
Ava Luna helped provide the shutout for her first clean sheet of the season. Sienna Milligan, Lauren Storie, and Clark Officer solidified the defensive line to keep DeKalb County from any scoring opportunities.
Overton County Jr. Lady Wildcats will be back in action at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16 against Avery Trace at Livingston Academy Soccer Field.
