How many “tweens” are out there who can do the work of a nuclear scientist? There’s at least one, according to Association of Mature American Citizens [AMAC]. His name is Jackson Oswalt, he lives in Memphis, and he built a nuclear reactor when he was 12 years-old.
But it took a while for the folks at Guinness to confirm that Jackson, who is 15 now, is indeed the world’s youngest person to achieve nuclear fusion. It was no easy task.
As Jackson put it, “I was unable to achieve a strong enough vacuum to ‘ignite’ the fusion reaction, but with perseverance I achieved my goal.”
