Howard Mitchell Loftis
Funeral services for Mr. Howard Mitchell Loftis, 93, of Cookeville, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 2021, at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with Pastor Doug Hawkins officiating. Interment followed at Poplar Springs Cemetery.
Howard departed from this life Thursday April 29, 2021, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Howard was a devoted Christian and member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. He was a farmer and formerly employed with Red Kap Industries, ACME Boot, and Tennessee Tech University Maintenance Department in Cookeville.
Born July 30, 1927, in Overton County, he was the son of the late George Martin Loftis and Ollie Mae Langford Loftis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Ann Stout; and two sisters, Edith Christine Loftis and Ollie Elise Moles.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lennie Waites Loftis, whom he married June 1, 1953, in Ringgold, GA; two daughters, Mary Joyce Hammett of Thomaston, GA, and Debbie (Randall) Ramsey of Cookeville; a son-in-law, Jim Stout of Louisiana; six grandchildren, Amy (Ryan) Slagle, Chad (Kasey) Ramsey, Brandy (Clint) Chastain, Bryan (Shanan) Shaver, John (Brittany) Hammett, and Jamey Stout; and 12 great grandchildren, Elijah and Jillian Slagle, Logan, Lily, and Ty Ramsey, Hudson, Hadley, and Harper, Chastain, Brylie, Brynlie, and Blakely Shaver; and a brother, Paul Loftis of Cookeville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Poplar Springs Cemetery Fund.
