Billy Joe Maxwell
Funeral services for Mr. Billy Joe Maxwell, 88, of Hilham, were held at 1 p.m., Monday, November 4, 2019, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Rick Cross officiating. Burial followed in Campground Cemetery.
Mr. Maxwell passed from this life Thursday morning, October 31, 2019, from Overton County Health & Rehab.
Billy was a member of Hilham Union Church, and served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren very much. Billy enjoyed woodworking, and was very accomplished at it, where he made many pieces for family, friends, and his church. He also enjoyed bluegrass music, nature watching, feeding birds, and going to church.
Born June 2, 1931, in Overton County, he was the son of the late J.P. and Ruby Ayers Maxwell.
In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by an infant son; a daughter, Phyllis Maxwell Ledbetter; a brother, John Maxwell; and two sisters, Blanche Fisk and Clarice Upton.
Billy leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Villa Thompson Maxwell of Hilham; a son, Billy Maxwell and wife Louann of Hilham; a daughter, Angela Hester of Livingston; three grandsons, Bradley Gore, Lyndon Johnson, and Justin Maxwell; two great-grandsons, Isaiah Johnson and Elijah Johnson; two great-granddaughters, Makiyah Gore and Malia Gore; and a brother, Maurice Maxwell of Clinton Township, MI.
Serving as pallbearers were Jerry Carr, Jack Dale, Joe Copeland, Mike Boles, Donnie Sullivan, and Tim Maxwell.
Memorial donations may be made to the Campground Cemetery Fund.
