Graveside services for Mr. Billie Dexter Ayers, 89, of Crossville and formerly of Overton County, were conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, October 8th, 2021, from Campground Cemetery with Bro. Charles Presley officiating.

Mr. Ayers passed from this life Wednesday, October 6, 2021.

Billie was a kind and gentle man who loved his family with all his heart. Billie’s grandchildren loved spending time with him in his garden and taking care of his beloved German Shepherds.

Billie was a carpenter by trade and took great pride in his work. Billie was loved and respected by everyone that knew him and his family and friends will miss him greatly.

Born July 26, 1932, in Overton County, he was the son of the late John and Essie May (Sullivan) Ayers.

In addition to his parents, Billie was preceded in death by a brother, James “Shorty” Ayers; and five sisters, Geneva Edmonds, Bonnie Clark, Jessie Neil Edmonds, Shelby Hawkins, and Lovell Ayers.

Billie is survived by three sons, Jason (Sabrina) Ayers of Crossville, Billie (Kim) Ayers of Lake City, FL, and Jeff (Connie) Ayers of Buffalo Valley; six grandchildren, Samantha (Daniel) Bos, Sabrina Ayers, Kayla (Josh) Ayers-Chastain, Josie (Zack) Smith, Jordan (Laramee) Ayers, and Amanda Katelyn Ayers; seven great grandchildren, Corbin Bos, Kenna Bos, Carley Bos, Carsen Ayers-Blackmon, Jedediah Smith, Zyler Smith, and Kaydence Smith; a sister, Barbara Dodson; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends; and his special friend, a tiny poodle named Fuzzle that never left his side. She will be lost without him.

Pallbearers were Jordan Ayers, Josh Chastain, Ezekiel Tinch, and Zackary Smith.

The family wishes to thank Caris Hospice and three very special caregivers, Rebecca Pelfry, Deanna Wagner and Loretta Roysden.
