Putnam man dies in Hwy 111 crash

Tennessee Highway Patrol personnel investigate a 2-vehicle crash on Highway 111 in which a Putnam County man died. According to THP’s preliminary incident information, Bob Allen, 71, of Cookeville, was driving a 1952 Chevrolet Deluxe westbound on Highway 111 South on Wednesday, Oct. 16 when a 2007 Volvo XC7 rear-ended the Chevy. Allen’s Chevrolet “then left the right side of the roadway and flipped twice before coming to a rest.” Allen was “ejected from the vehicle and came to a final rest 30 feet from” his vehicle. “Driver expired on scene due to injuries.”

The Volvo driver, Michael Owens, 39, of Byrdstown, sustained injuries in the incident, which was investigated by Trooper Neil Mathews.
