Hardy’s Chapel Volunteer Fire Department and law enforcement officials were called to the scene of a burning motorcycle in the 2200 block of Standing Stone Highway around 6:25 p.m. Tuesday, April 6.

According to Tennessee Highway Patrol’s preliminary incident report, the 2007 Yamaha YZF was traveling south on Highway 136 when the motorcycle rider attempted to negotiate a slight curve to the left, and due to excessive speed, was unable to do so.

The motorcycle left the roadway on the right side and struck a small dip in the grass, which caused the motorcycle to go airborne. It landed on the left side and burst into flames.

According to reports, the driver, who was also on fire, rolled away from the motorcycle and got up and ran away on foot.

The motorcycle was found to be entered as stolen on March 17, according to Putnam County Sheriff’s Department information to THP.

The driver had still not been located at the time of the THP preliminary incident report.
