A 76 year-old man drowned in Dale Hollow Lake Sunday evening, May 26.
According to reports, Roy Lacey was swimming off of the dock at Willow Grove Marina when he went under the water.
Overton County EMS, Clay County Sheriff Department, and East Clay Volunteer Fire Department were called to the scene. Additional responding units from Clay County Medical Examiner's Office and Clay County EMA were en route as well. Scuba diver Michael Maxwell found Lacey in approximately 22 feet of water a short distance from the houseboat from which he vacationed many times throughout the year. At that point, Lacey had been under for about 20 to 30 minutes.
Mickey Ledbetter, owner of Willow Grove Marina, said that although Lacey used a wheelchair, he was known to swim.
Overton County Paramedic/Assistant Medical Examiner Chris Masiongale was on the scene when the body was recovered, after assessment, and examination in coordination with Clay County Assistant Medical Examiner Natalie Boon, and Livingston Regional ER physcian Dr. Mark Pressley, Lacey was pronounced dead at the scene.
