Troopers with Tennessee Highway Patrol and deputies with Overton County Sheriff’s Department look over the scene where a tractor-trailer overturned just after 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 4, spilling its load of logs across Highway 111 and East Turkey Creek Road. According to THP’s preliminary incident report, Tristan L. Carter, 22, of Rock Island, was driving a 1998 International tractor-trailer, hauling logs, north on Highway 111 as Darren E. Herrod, 46, of Morrison, was driving a 2002 Peterbilt tractor-trailer north in lane 2. When Herrod started to turn onto West Turkey Creek Road, the International struck the rear of the Peterbilt tractor-trailer and overturned, spilling logs onto Highway 111, blocking the northbound lanes. Carter, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported to Cookeville Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries. Herrod, who was also wearing a seatbelt, was apparently uninjured. THP Trooper Toby Beaty investigated the incident.
