Boating mishaps occur over weekend

At approximately 2 p.m., Sunday, May 30, East Clay Volunteer Fire Department was notified of possible boating accident near Willow Grove Campground swimming area. Once on scene, firefighters found a 49 year-old male had suffered serious injuries to his left leg, where he was pinned between the boat and the ground. Witnesses said he was attempting to pull the boat onto the shore.

Firefighters were able to provide medical attention until Overton County EMS arrived. Clay County Sheriff’s Department, TWRA, and staff from Willow Grove Marina were also able to assist. Assistance was also provided by the gate guards at Willow Grove campground and many volunteers on scene.

The patient was transported to Willow Grove Marina where Air Evac 14 had landed and was waiting for the patient. The patient was flown to Skyline Medical Center, with serious injuries.
