In 1993, an American film, “Rudy” was released chronicling the young life of Daniel Ruettiger, an Indiana boy wanting to play football at Notre Dame. Lacking the grades and money to attend, Rudy seeks the help of a Catholic priest, Father Cavanaugh, who has a line that is profound to this movie, to history, and to life. The old priest said he knew two undeniable facts: “that there is a God, and that it’s not him!”

I use this introduction to emphasize this point. There is a God, and it is not any of us as mortal men!!!!!

Dear friends, neighbors, and fellow Christians, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. Is it because it was founded by perfect men? Quite the contrary. It was founded by imperfect men seeking to serve a perfect God! Our Declaration of Independence says it best:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Our Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights were primarily penned by Thomas Jefferson, who went on to be our third president. George Washington, the father of our Country, took a rag-tag army and defeated the English, a global power. Theodore Roosevelt not only proved himself militarily but also preserved the National Park lands for generations to enjoy. Our sixteenth President, Abraham Lincoln, was the great emancipator. He brought to an end the atrocity of slavery.

Please excuse this thumb-nail history review. In these days of civil unrest, we have seen monuments defaced and destroyed under the guise of anger toward racism. I challenge that!!!!! This is not about racism, nor is it about police brutality, nor is it about eradicating old wounds! It is about socialism. It is about communism. It is about anarchy! It is a hatred toward the democracy of our land.

Is there a cure? Absolutely. If we will turn our faces back to God, adhere to his Word, and live through his commands rather than man’s, He will heal our land.

For 244 years, our Creator has granted us these liberties, freedoms, rights, and privileges. Let’s realize and remember that our founding fathers, our fore fathers, and our earthly fathers were imperfect men. They were not God! However, know the ultimate risk and sacrifice they made to grant us this freedom we enjoy today!

So, as we celebrate Independence Day on the 4th of July this Saturday, don’t let our mainstream media convince you Americans are bad people, that America is a bad place, that our good days are behind, and that all is gloom and doom. Be proud to be an American! Be proud to be a Christian! Be proud to know, with God’s blessings and mercy: THE BEST IS YET TO COME!
