UT Extension office begins re-opening

Extension Notes

by Christina C. Swallows, UT Extension Agent

The UT Extension office located at 312 W. Broad St., Suite 6 in Livingston is starting our reopening phase starting Tuesday, May 19. Our office hours will be 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The UT system is taking safety precautions as we begin our “soft opening” as a result of the Coronavirus.

Our Phase 1 will be for 14 days. During this time, we will be seeing individuals by appointment only. We will still be closed to the public, but individuals can make appointments to come into the office to see a staff member. We will have one staff member managing the office, but we ask that you call 823-2735 in advance for appointments.

We cannot see more than one person at a time during this phase. Our plan is to meet with you in our conference room for these first few weeks.

If the COVID-19 numbers in Overton County spike we will be forced to close the doors again and only work from home through phone calls and by technology resources.

To keep you, us, and others safe, we ask that you check yourself before leaving home. If you have a fever, cough, or shortness of breath, please stay home and contact your doctor or go to the Overton County Health Department for testing.

If you have a mask, we would appreciate you wearing it while working with our employees. If you or your family members need a mask, contact the Overton County Health Department, 931-823-6260, for a free mask made available by Governor Lee.

Even though businesses like ours are gradually opening, continue to maintain distance between yourself and others. Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue and then toss the tissue in the trash. Avoid touching your face (mouth, eyes, nose) and wear a cloth face covering over both nose and mouth when in public. Maintain good clean personal hygiene as well as clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces. Continue washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. And if you are sick, please stay home except to seek medical care.

We welcome all persons back into our office with safeguards in place. We appreciate you taking care of keeping yourself safe. Our number one goal currently is to keep you and our staff safe. We are excited to open our doors once again and hopefully will move through the phases quickly and sometime in the future come to the new normal.
