A Brief Review of 1956 in Overton and Pickett Counties

Mrs. Avo Weir of Iowa is visiting her mother and sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Winton and Mrs. Lula McCormick.
Faye and Donnie Norris are visiting relatives in Battle Creek, Mich.
Mrs. Robert Winton and Mrs. Hutson Mullins visited Mr. and Mrs. Clyde York of Columbia Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Haskell Vaughn moved to Alpine last week from Crossville. Mr. Vaughn is in business in Livingston.
Mr. and Mrs. Carlos Winton and children of Battle Creek, Mich. are visiting their parents Mrs. Flora Winton and Mr. and Mrs. Arlie Norris.
Mr. and Mrs. Cliford Brown and daughter of Battle Creek, Mich. and Mr. and Mrs. Estes Speck and daughter of Georgia spent the weekend with their grandmother, Mrs. Cora Vaughn.
Mr. and Mrs. Odus Speck and son of Battle Creek, Mich. Spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Copeland.
Mr. and Mrs. Bethel Copeland and family of Dayton Ohio are visiting relatives in Alpine.
Mrs. Boyd Baxter and children of Indianapolis, Ind. spent this weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gerstal Smith.
Sallie Lee Carr of Battle Creek, Mich. is visiting her father, Pat Carr, and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Sells of Norfolk, Va. are visiting their parents, Mrs. Aridonia Sells and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smith.
David Larson and Royce Sells of Indianapolis, Ind. spent the weekend with Royce’s mother, Mrs. Arizonia Sells.
Lurton Winton of Sparta spent Sunday night with his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Winton.
Mrs. Kelly Maynord is spending this week with her son, Bethel, and family in McMinnville.
At its regular meeting the Leroy V. Little Post 9 of Byrdstown elected the following officers: Commander, Richard Groce, First Vice-Commander, Curtis Hassler; Second Vice-Commander, Jesse Rich; Adjutant, Ralph Keisling; Chaplain, Taskel Rich; Sergeant-at-Arms, Red Capps; Service Officer, John G. Taylor. Auxiliary officers: President, Ova Dyer; Vice President, Mary Wells; Secretary, Robbie Hassler; Treasurer, Dorothy Martin; Chaplain, Mae Crouch; Historian, Claudine Dillon; Sergeant-at-Arms, Leiron Donaldson and Bobby Ruth Elder.
Mrs. Gordon Willyoung of Lansing, Michigan visited her aunts and uncles in Livingston last week.
Hilda and Robert Garrett, Mrs. Neil Simmons and daughter, Pamelia, spent the weekend in Arkansas with their niece.
Larry Wayne Edmonds, age four months, passed away at Lady Ann Hospital in Livingston on February 13. He was the son of Thurman M. Edmonds and Lseneva Ayers Edmonds of Cookeville, Route 1. Funeral Services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday February 15 at Poplar Springs with the burial in the cemetery there. Speck-Hyder Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
