A Brief Review of 1956 in Overton and Pickett Counties

Cletus Odell Sherfield departed this life March 13, 1956 at the Vanderbilt Hospital. He was born January 8, 1915. At age 24 he married Nancy Melton. To this union was born Anna Jo, who survives him. Later he married Eula Burns Scott, who survives him. He is also survived by brother Frank Sherfield of Altus, Oklahoma, sisters, Mrs. Lockie Groce of the St. John Community and Mrs. Dora Fulton of Zula, Kentucky.
C.C. Donaldson, 57, passed away on Friday, March 23, at a Franklin Kentucky Hospital following a long illness. Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 25, at the Celina Church of Christ with Monroe Lawson and Herman Taylor officiating. Burial was at the Celina Cemetery. The Upton Funeral Home was in charge. Mr. Donaldson was a member of the board of directors of the Bank of Celina and a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Rebecca Waddle Donaldson; son, John Clark Donaldson, Celina; sisters, Mrs. W.D. Waters, Tampa, Texas; Mrs. Herman Taylor, Franklin, Ky.; brothers, W.H. and R.L. Donaldson, Celina.
The area called Dale Hollow includes major portions of Clay, Pickett and Overton counties. These counties are linked by a common interest in Dale Hollow Lake and its recreational facilities and, agriculturally, by common interest in strawberry and tobacco cultivation, and cattle. Industrially the three counties have garment factories.
