Lena (Phillips) Moore Bruce

Funeral services for Mrs. Lena (Phillips) Moore Bruce, 87, of Charlottesville, VA, formerly of Putnam County, were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2010 from the Eastwood Baptist Church in Cookeville, with Bro. Bob Pharris officiating.

Burial was in Crestlawn Cemetery in Cookeville.

Mrs. Bruce died Tuesday, August 31, at the home of her daughter. She was a homemaker and charter member of Eastwood Baptist Church.

Born September 3, 1922 in Putnam County, she was the daughter of the late James “Jim” and Pearlie (Morgan) Phillips of Cookeville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James T. “Jimmy” Bruce; a sister, Edna (Phillips) Grimes; and 2 brothers, Thurman Phillips and Clarence Phillips.

Survivors include a daughter, Belinda (Bruce) Jones of Charlottesville, VA; a sister, Mrs. Janie Frazier of Cookeville; and 3 grandchildren, Sgt. Andrew Jones of Ft. Bragg, NC, Lora Jones and Bruce Jones, both of Charlottesville, VA.

Pallbearers were Don Frazier, Gerald Tinch, David Phillips, Scott McCanless, Phil McCanless, and Sgt. Andrew Jones.

Flord T. "Buster" Garrett
Funeral services for Mr. Floyd T. “Buster” Garrett, 69, of Monroe, were conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, September 9, 2010 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home, with Bro. Ronnie Cobb officiating.

Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Pickett County.

Mr. Garrett died Monday, September 6, at Livingston Regional Hospital. He had been a farmer.

Born May 14, 1941 in Pickett County, he was the son of the late Quince and Lola (Hill) Garrett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Garrett; 4 brothers, Odis Garrett, Ottis Garrett, Cosby Garrett, and Clura Garrett; and a sister, Norma Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Garrett of Monroe; a son, Tommy
Garrett of Pioneer, TN; a step-son, Jack Newberry of Portland, TN; a step-daughter, Norma Whitehead of Princeton, KY; 4 grandchildren; and 10 step-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Mike Manko, Louis Baker, Roger McDonald, Robert Padgett, Earl Newberry, and Tommy Garrett.

Maxine Phillips

Funeral services for Ms. Maxine Phillips, 67, of Clarkrange, were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 9, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Swallows officiating.
Burial was in Campground Cemetery.

Ms. Phillips died Monday, September 6, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was a factory worker, having worked at Adams USA in Monterey for the past 16 years.

Born June 27, 1943 in Clarkrange, she was the daughter of the late Ethridge and Winnie (Miller) Phillips.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Keith Miller of Clarkrange; a son, Roger Bilbrey of Clarkrange; 3 brothers, Robert Phillips, Earnel Phillips, and Tony Phillips, all of Clarkrange; 4 grandchildren, Brandon Bilbrey, Nathaniel Bilbrey, Lee Miller, and Michael Elmore; and 2 great-grandchildren, Megan and Madison.

Trina (Goodwin) Rinker
Funeral services for Mrs. Trina (Goodwin) Rinker, 50, of Livingston, were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, September 10, 2010, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home, with Rev. Richard Rollins officiating.

Burial was in Hanging Limb Cemetery.

Mrs. Rinker died Monday, September 6, at University of Louisville Medical Center in Louisville, KY. She was a homemaker and a member of Hanging Limb Baptist Church.

Born January 9, 1960 in New Castle, IN, she was the daughter of the late Oral and Barbara (Jackson) Goodwin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Rinker.

Survivors include her husband, Fred Rinker of Livingston; 2 daughters and
a son-in-law, Nancy and Jerry Greathouse of Cookeville, and Becca Thoms of Browntown, IN; 3 sons, Daniel Thoms of Orleans, IN, and John Thoms and David Thoms, both of IN; 3 sisters, Nancy Tinch and Rita Collins, both of Hanging Limb, and Janet Beach of New Castle, IN; and 6 grandchildren.

Lonzo S mith
Funeral services for Mr. Lonzo Smith, 73, of Monroe, were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, September 10, 2010 from the chapel of Hall Funeral Home, with Bro. Ronnie Cobb officiating.

Burial was in Wirmingham Cemetery in Monroe.

Mr. Smith died Wednesday, September 8, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Born May 29, 1937 in Overton County, he was the son of the late Floyd and Nova (Gray) Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 5 siblings, Junior Smith, Dinzle Smith, Beatrice Rovani, Allard Smith, and Bethel Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Smith; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Melessa Smith, Ronnie and Tammy Smith, and Randy and Tabitha Smith; 2 sisters, Cleatrice Wehrli and Frieda Smith; a brother, R.D. Smith; 5 grandchildren, Brittney Davenport, Brandi Keisling, Britany Smith, Heather Burchett, and Tyler Smith; and 4 great-grandchildren, Andrew Davenport, Brooklyn Smith, Joshua Burchett, and Alliyah Smith.

Pallbearers were Gary Smith, Ronnie Smith, Randy Smith, Tyler Smith, Keith Leslie, and Carl Garrett.

Martha James (Mabry) Smith
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Martha James (Mabry) Smith, 92, of Livingston, were conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, September 11, 2010 from Overton County Memorial Gardens, with Bro. Ken Williams officiating.

Mrs. Smith died Friday, September 10, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She had been a homemaker and member of Livingston Church of Christ.

Born March 24, 1918 in Clay County, she was the daughter of the late Jay and Ann (Weaver) Mabry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luke L. Smith; 4 brothers, and 2 sisters.

Survivors include 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Gene and Kay Smith and Jay J. Smith, all of Livingston; 2 daughters, Cherry Smith of Livingston, and Lois Evans of Camden, TN; 4 grandchildren, Jamie Bournes and her husband, Chad, of Livingston; Jennifer Hawkins of Camden, TN; Denise Arkon of Mt. Juliet, TN, and Deloris Swindell of Sparta, TN; 4 great-grandchildren, Corbin Bournes, Amber Mathis, Kayla Hardin, and Jaclyn Overstreet; and a great-great-grandchild, Kylee Mathis.

Gena Mae (Pendergrass) Thompson
Funeral services for Mrs. Gena Mae (Pendergrass) Thompson, 71, of Rickman, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 16, 2010 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home, with Bro. Jerry Wilkerson and Rev. Jeff Cotterman officiating.

Burial will be in Dodson Chapel Cemetery.

Mrs. Thompson died Monday, September 13 at Kindred Hospital in Louisville, KY.

Born August 8, 1938 in Pickett County, she was the daughter of the late Louis Dalton and Shirley (Garrett) Pendergrass. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Glenn Thompson; 4 brothers, Coy Pendergrass, Pratt Pendergrass, Clifford Pendergrass, and Johnny Pendergrass; and a half-sister, Betty Hash.

Survivors include 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Vicki Thompson
and Jeff and Tonia Thompson, all of Rickman; 2 sisters and a brother-in-law, Juanita and Jess Matthews of Rickman, and Fonza Smith of Indiana; a half-sister, Nelda Clark; a sister-in-law, Judy Pendergrass; a brother and sister-in-law, Bud and Nell Pendergrass of Jamestown; 2 half-brothers, Nick Pendergrass and David Pendergrass; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Timmy Pendergrass, Tommy Pendergrass, Sam Pendergrass, Mike Pendergrass, Gary Pendergrass, Kenny Smith, David
Matthews, and Matt Wilkerson.
