ABrief Review of 1956 in Overton and Pickett Counties
Charles Milton Booher, 74, died on June 14 at his home in the third district of Pickett County. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. on June 16 at the Wolf Creek Baptist Church by Bro. T.L. Cummings and Bro. Torience Hire. Burial was at Lovelady Cemetery. Speck-Hyder Funeral Home was in charge.
Mr. and Mrs. Obed Catrom and son of Oak Ridge were in Pickett County last week visiting with relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Willie D. Martin of Nashville were in Byrdstown Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Printis Rains and daughters, Alma and Charlene; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Upchurch and children, and Mr. and Mrs. Willis M. Huddleston attended funeral services for Horace Huddleston in Harriman Saturday.
Mary Altha Coe and Katy Bertram, who have been teaching in Dearborn, Michigan, are home for a few days. They will return to Michigan and enroll at Wayne University for the summer term.
James Louis Sells, Alpine, Bob Carson Matthews, Livingston, and Carole Ann Roberts, Livingston, are on the University of Tennessee Honor Roll, according to Dean of Admissions R.F. Thomason.
Mary Elizabeth Ledbetter Hill passed away on June 16 at her home on Route 1, Monroe. She had been in poor health for some time. Funeral services were conducted at Midway on June 18 with Bro. Kirby Smith and Bro. Vinton Bradshaw officiating. She was born on April 12, 1882. She was the daughter of Nancy Ermaline and Andrew Jackson Ledbetter. She was married to James Washington Hill on August 5, 1905. Children Zodell Hill Robbins, deceased, Charlie Gibson Hill, deceased, and Emma Dee Sells were born to this union. She is survived by her husband, John W. Hill; daughter, Emma Dee Sells; granddaughter, Mrs. Claudell Robbins Parrot; and great granddaughter, Deborah Lou Parrot. She also leaves her sister, Mrs. Rannie Smith of Detroit, and brothers Horace Ledbetter of Crossville, Vincent Ledbetter of Revio, Ky., Granville Ledbetter of Alpine and Dillard Ledbetter of Detroit, Mich.
Kirby Franklin and children, Jack and Judy, of Anderson, Ind., were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Osby Story Friday and Saturday.
Richard Dulin of Dallas, Texas, Benton Miller and Martha Baw Miller of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Kerns were guests of Vinton Bradshaw at a picnic at Obey Park Saturday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Luther Franklin and family were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Copeland of Southern Pines, N.C. Mrs. Franklin and children visited Mrs. David Lollar in Carthage June 11 and 12.
