Tennessee Team Pride takes AAU championship

Tennessee Team Pride takes AAU championship

Tennessee Team Pride 10 and under girls basketball team finished as AAU’s Division 1 national champion in Orlando, FL. The 5-day event ended Monday, July 20 with a 43-27 Team Pride victory over the national runner-up Indiana Blizzard. Forty-four teams from 27 states competed for the national title. Team Pride finished the tournament with a 7-0 record. The championship also gave the team back-to-back national titles by successfully defending their 9 and under AAU national title from Kenner, LA, in 2008.
Team Pride Basketball Club is a nationally competitive girls program based at Hooptown in Murfreesboro. Team tryout information can be found at www.TennesseeTeamPride.com. Local player Skyla Looper from Livingston Academy was one of 12 players on Team Pride 10u that competed at the national championship. Buzachero earns 5th save with 51s
“Bubbie” Buzachero, of Livingston, earned his 5th save with Las Vegas on Saturday, Aug. 1.

With the 51s up 8-7 at home against the Salt Lake Bees, Buzachero was brought in to pitch the top of the 9th inning.

He struck out Matthew Brown swinging for the first out, induced a ground out to shortstop from Adam Pavkovich, then struck out Gary Patchett swinging to end the game.

Buzachero threw 13 pitches, 11 for strikes in earning the save. He lowered his earned run average to 2.92.

Earlier in the week, Buzachero was brought in to close out two games.
On Monday, July 27, Buzachero closed out a 4-0 win over the hosting Tacoma Rainiers.

Matt Tuiasosopo grounded out to shortstop Angel Sanchez, who threw to first baseman Brian Dopirak for the first out.

Mike Carp struck out swinging.

Brad Nelson hit a line drive single to left field, then Mike Wilson grounded back to Buzachero, who threw to first base for the final out.

Buzachero threw 21 pitches to 4 batters, 14 for strikes.

The following day, Buzachero closed out an 8-0 win at Portland.

He induced Sean Kasmar to ground out to second baseman Howie Clark, who threw to first baseman Randy Ruiz for the first out.

Mike Baxter flied out to center fielder Buck Coats, and Craig Stansberry popped out to second baseman Clark for the final out.

Buzachero threw 14 pitches, 9 for strikes.

Barring a trade or call-up to the Blue Jays, Buzachero may have the opportunity to pitch in Wrigley Field when the 51s take on the Iowa Cubs in a special game at 11:05 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 9.

Judge Dean Golf Tourney held recently
A total of 52 golfers participated in the 60th Annual Judge Dean Golf Tournament held June 20 at Hidden Valley Golf Course.

The foursome of Jack Dale, Joe Moss, Johnny Halfacre, and Brandon Thomas won the tournament.

The Rotary Club expressed appreciation to all the sponsors of the tournament and the players who participated.
