One way to keep momentum going is to constantly have greater goals, and a trip to the regional finals was the goal for the Livingston Academy boys soccer team when the season kicked off.

After starting 0-3, the Cats caught fire, rattling off 9 straight wins and advancing to the regional semis last Tuesday night, May 12 at the LA soccer field against White House.

The run would end though, as the Wildcats were shut out by the Blue Devils 2-0.

Defensively, the Cats’ keeper only let two slip by, one goal in each half, but the offensive firepower they had been using over the past month was just not there.

“White House capitalized on our mistakes,” Coach Ethan King said, “and we could not overcome them this time.”

The Cats would now be put out for the season, but would go home with a impressive 9-4-1 record, and a very impressive ninth straight district title.

“I am proud of this team,” King continued. “They showed the most improvement of any team; the team of 2009 should be proud.”

The Wildcats doubled their opponents scoring output on the season, outscoring opponents 52-25, and had many players on the All-District team. For the year, the Wildcats held three spots on the All-District first team, as Patrick Letner, Greg Walker, and Josh Huitt collected those honors. But, that would not be all, as Josh Espey, Kiefer Smith, and Jake Huitt had their names put onto the second team. Dylan Ashlock made Honorable Mention on the year.

Now the Cats will look to focus on next season, as they return key players Jake Huitt, Dylan Ashlock, and Ryan Swallows. Coach King has announced that tryouts for next year’s squad will be held Thursday and Friday, May 21 and 22 from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Livingston Academy soccer field.
