“Pretty Boy” Shot Down As He Attempts To Escape
“Law” In Ohio
Never Had A Chance

East Liverpool, Ohio -Melvin Purvis, department of justice head, chalked up another victory for the law Monday when Charles Arthur (“Pretty Boy”) Floyd went the way of most desperate criminals, shot by officers’ guns.

Floyd was shot to death by a burst of pistol, rifle and machine gun fire by officers as he fled from a farm about seven miles north of East Liverpool. Fifty or more shots were fired at him, many of them taking effect in his body. He never had a chance to use the two automatics he was carrying. When officers came upon the fallen gangster he asked, “Who the hell tipped you?” and then asked about Eddie, apparently referring to Adam Richetti who was captured Saturday near Wellville in a gun battle with officers. Just before he died, Floyd stated, “I am Floyd.” It was apparent he knew he was dying. He died about fifteen minutes after he was shot by the officers as they were carrying him to a nearby automobile waiting to take him to the hospital.
