James Calvin Carr
James Calvin Carr, youngest son of Abraham and Elizabeth Brooks Carr, born April 22, 1852, near Livingston, Overton County, Tennessee, where a brother still resides. Here he, four brothers, and five sisters were born and reared.

On October 11, 1877, he was united in marriage to Mary Isabelle Gore. Nine children came to bless this home, two of whom died August 21 and 24, 1886, a son, John Mitchell, age two years and a daughter, Sarah A., age four months.

For more than seven years their home was on a farm near Livingston.
In February, 1885, Mr. and Mrs. Carr with their then five children, went to Beloit, Kansas, where they lived until the opening of the Cherokee Strip. Mr. Carr made the race and staked a claim and in 1894, with his family, established the home, from where their three sons and four daughters went out to make homes of their own, and where they have lived continuously since.

He was a pioneer of the old school, his grandparents having come from Virginia to Tennessee soon after the close of the Revolutionary War.

This, a grand old man, a community builder, a kindly neighbor, and a Christian in the fullest sense, was always unselfishly mindful of others. He was a loving and generous husband and father to whom his loved ones are forever indebted for the high ideals and loyal principles so earnestly exemplified in his long, useful life, which came to a close on August 11, 1934.

As he entered the realms of sunset too bright for man to enter without probation, his spirit returned to God who gave it. Those left to follow are his beloved wife and three sons; Ridley J., of Glendale, Ariz., F. Burr of the home; James C. Jr., of Baca County, Colorado; four daughters, Mrs. C.D. Evans of Lamont, Okla.; Mrs. William Wilson of Lindsay, Calif.; Mrs. E.B. McMahan of Boise City, Okla.; Mrs. H.B. Hamilton of Baca County, Colorado; eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one adopted grandson; and a brother, W.C. Carr of Livingston, Tennessee.
