LA Golf begins new season

By Mac McLeod,

With a tie, a second, and a pair of first places, the Livingston Academy golf team got the season off to a good start last week, competing in two matches.
On Tuesday, Aug. 12, the Wildcats traveled to Monterey’s home course of Mountain Ridge and posted a total score of 158. Chris McDonald led the way for LA with a 36 with Clint West posting a 38, Anthony Woolbright had a 41, and Kasey Beason rounded out the scoring with a 43.
Monterey also posted a team total of 158.
While the boys were taking the tie, the LA girls, Emily Miller and Megan Stonecipher, each posted rounds of 40 for the win. Monterey came in second with a team score of 83.
“This was a very good win for both our teams, especially the girls, since we were playing on Monterey’s home course,” pointed out LA coach Elizabeth Maxwell. “With the win at DeKalb County on Thursday, our girls are out to a 2-0 start and that’s good. Now, we just need to keep concentrating and playing hard. “
In the match on Thursday, Aug. 14 at Smith County Country Club, Stonecipher carded a 40 and Miller a 41 for a team total of 81. Monterey came in three strokes back while host DeKalb posted an 89 and Pickett rounded out the match with a 117.
In boys play, home team DeKalb posted a team total of 154 while the Wildcats were five shots back for second place. Monterey was third with a 163, and Pickett was fourth with a 193.
West paced Livingston with a 36, McDonald had a 39 as did Dustin Watkins, and Robert York carded a 45.
Livingston’s teams play at home Tuesday, Aug. 19 then travel to Jackson County on Thursday, Aug. 21.
Two matches have been added to this year’s schedule that includes a home and away match with Clinton County, Ky. The first match will be August 28 at Livingston and the return match will be in Kentucky on September 9.
