Buzachero strikes out 8 in Buffalo Bisons loss

Edward “Bubbie” Buzachero had one of his best pitching performances of the year for the Buffalo Bisons at home Thursday, July 3 and was tagged with a loss in a 13-inning game.

In five innings of relief, he struck out 8 Rochester Red Wings and gave up only one earned run, lowering his ERA to 2.78. He threw 53 of 77 pitches for strikes.

With Buffalo trailing 5-2 with two out in the top of the 8th inning, Buzachero was brought in to face Sergio Santos, who promptly lined out to shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera.

In the top of the 9th, Ryan Jorgensen hit a line drive single into left field, then Tommy Watkins hit another line drive single into left.

Trevor Plouffe put down a sacrifice bunt, but a throwing error by catcher Chris Giminez allowed Jorgensen to score, Watkins to advance to third, and Plouffe to go all the way to second.

Buzachero then struck out Darnell McDonald swinging, intentionally walked Garrett Jones, and struck out Randy Ruiz swinging to end the inning.

Buffalo scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th to tie the game at 6-6 and force extra innings.

Matt Macri started the top of the 10th inning with a line drive to left field, then Sergio Santos popped out to first baseman Jordan Brown in foul territory.

Jorgensen hit into a force play that put Macri out at second on a throw from third baseman Morgan Ensberg to second baseman Andy Gonzalez.

Jason Pridie was brought in to pinch run for Jorgensen, then Tommy Watkins hit into a force out, again from Ensberg to Gonzalez.

Buzachero opened the top of the 11th by striking out Plouffe swinging, and striking out McDonald swinging.

Jones then hit a ground ball single into right field.

Buzachero struck out the side when Ruiz went down swinging.

The top of the 12th began with Howie Clark grounding out to second baseman Gonzalez who threw to first baseman Brown for the out.

Macri hit a line drive single into left field, then Santos flied out to left fielder Jason Cooper.

Buzachero struck out Jeff Christy swinging to end the inning.

Watkins popped out to second baseman Andy Gonzalez for the first out of the top of the 13th inning, then Trevor Plouffe hit a home run to give Rochester a 7-6 advantage.

Buzachero struck out McDonald for the second out of the inning, then was removed from the game. Rich Rundles came in for the last out of the inning, a Jones pop up to second.
