Gregory Verdin Brown
Funeral services for Mr. Gregory Verdin Brown, 37, of Baxter, were conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Roberts and Bro. Tony Crow officiating. Burial was in Holly Springs Cemetery.

Mr. Brown died Tuesday, Jan. 22 at Cookeville Regional Hospital. He was employed by Swift Construction Company and was a member of Silver Point Baptist Church.

Born Dec. 22, 1970, he was the son of Joanne (Turner) Brown of Rickman and the late George Verdin Brown.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a nephew, George Brandon Brown.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Nicole Brown of Baxter; a son, Chadwic Devillanueva of Baxter; 3 daughters, Lindsey Brown of Sparta and Ashley Devillanueva and Skila Devillanueva, both of Baxter; 3 sisters and brothers-in-law, Lisa and Tim Dunn of Rickman, Vicki and Mark West of Carthage, and Jill and Chris Shellenbach of Cookeville.

Pallbearers were Charles Wayne Wilson, Travis Peek, Casey Conner, Jeremy Dunn, Dustin Savage, Ward Smith, Randy Owens, and Bruce Hubble.

Luther W. Ellis
Mr. Luther W. Ellis, 80, of Anderson, IN, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008 at Manor Care after an extended illness. He will be buried in Tennessee.

He worked in the Anderson area as a plasterer/contractor.

Born October 15, 1927, in Gainesboro, he was the son of the late Thomas Ellis and Mattie (Lee) Ellis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, John Henry Ellis and Robert D. Ellis; and 7 sisters, Audrey (Ellis) Miller, Velva (Ellis) Harris, Lola B. (Ellis) Brown, Louis Kay Ellis, Dimple Estelle (Ellis) Ramsey, Emma Jean (Ellis) Otis and Lena Rose (Ellis) Lawler.

Survivors include a sister, Inez Smethers; and several nephews and nieces.
Memorial contributions may be made to Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Home PO Box 888, Anderson, IN 46015-0888 to help the family with funeral services.

Lottie Magdalene Ferrell
Funeral services for Mrs. Lottie Magdalene Ferrell, 93, of Livingston, were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Kirk Talley officiating. Burial was in Good Hope Cemetery.

Mrs. Ferrell died Tuesday, Jan. 22 at Overton County Nursing Home. She was a homemaker and seamstress, and a member of Livingston Church of Christ.

Born July 12, 1914, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Cora (Jackson) Copeland.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bates Lee Verlie Ferrell.

Survivors include 3 daughters, Geraldine (Ferrell) Hester of Rex, GA, Christene Martin of Higgins Lake, MI, and Wilma Epling of Livingston; a brother, Curtis Copeland of Livingston; 3 sisters, Ethel Sells and Vada Ledbetter, both of Livingston, and Betty Free of Anderson, IN; 7 grandchildren, Pamela Myers of Monticello, GA, Sonya Bright of Rex, Tom Martin of Orion, MI, Roger Martin of Rockford, IL, Debbie McCoy of Livingston, Elaine Epling of Newport News, VA, and Daryl Epling of Livingston; 9 great-grandchildren, Jimmy McCoy Jr., Rachael McCoy, and Jordan McCoy, all of Livingston, Matthew Epling of Newport News, Cody Shane Whitt of Stockbridge, GA, and Seara Whitt, Asia Whitt, Justin Myers, and Chelsea Reed, all of Monticello; a sister-in-law, Mabel Tidrow Sells of Byrdstown; and several nephews and nieces.

Pallbearers were Rod Myers, Jim McCoy, Jimmy McCoy, Jordan McCoy, Daryl Epling, and Tom Martin.

Jerry V. Garrett
Funeral services for Mr. Jerry V. Garrett, 60, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, from the chapel of Hall Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Monday officiating. Burial was in Overton County Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Garrett died Saturday, Jan. 26 at Livingston Regional Hospital.

Born September 23, 1947, in Byrdstown, he was the son of the late Waymon and Janie (Mullins) Garrett.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sherra Garrett; and 2 brothers, Waymon “Jr.” Garrett and Robert Gerald Garrett.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Amy Garrett of Byrdstown; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Penny and Bill Russell of Byrdstown and Brandi Smith of Livingston; 3 brothers, Charles Garrett of Corbin, KY, James Garrett of Byrdstown, and Lynn “Little Daddy” Garrett of Livingston; and 2 grandchildren, Matthew Russell and Lyndsey Russell, both of Byrdstown.

Pallbearers were Tim Sells, Tim West, Troy Ramsey, Jeff Stephens, Bruce Goreman, and Lynn Walker.

Kimberly Marie Hutchison
Funeral services for Ms. Kimberly Marie Hutchison, 36, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Kerry Duke officiating. Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Ms. Hutchison died Thursday, Jan. 24 at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a homemaker.

Born March 20, 1971, in Overton County, she was the daughter of Maydean Hutchison Winningham of Livingston.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Jake Hutchison; and her step-father, Howard Winningham.

Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her grandmother, Ada Hutchison of Livingston; a son, Travis Owen Pruett Jr. of Livingston; 2 daughters, Misty Pruett and Terri Nicole Pruett, both of Livingston; a brother, Terry Hutchison; and the father of her children, Travis Pruett of Livingston.

Pallbearers were Chris Holmes, John Ramsey, Dustin Stanton, Terry R. Fields, Mike Randolph, and Brandon Pruett.

Jimmy E. Newberry
Funeral services for Mr. Jimmy E. Newberry, 66, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Tom Greenwood and Bro. Marlon Winningham officiating. Burial was in Okolona Cemetery.

Mr. Newberry died Wednesday, Jan. 16 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was an electrician and plumber, a veteran of the United States Army serving in Vietnam, a member of the VFW, a second degree Mason, and a member of Church of Christ.

Born March 20, 1941, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Fate and Margie (Boatman) Newberry.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bill
Newberry.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Newberry of Livingston, a son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Stacey Newberry of Livingston; a sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Richard Dinkins of Byrdstown; 3 grandchildren, Haleigh Newberry, Christian Newberry, and Kendall Newberry; and several nephews and nieces.

Pallbearers were William Brent Gore, Harold Gore, Clyde Qualls, M.J. Hammock, Kenneth Clark, and Leon Gillentine.

Johnny M. “Squeak” Smith
Funeral services for Mr. Johnny M. “Squeak” Smith, 50, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Buddy Reed officiating. Burial was in Poplar Springs Cemetery.

Mr. Smith died Thursday, Jan. 24 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a furniture factory worker, an umpire for more than 20 years, and a member of the American Softball Association.

Born March 28, 1957, in Overton County, he was the son of the late John and Jessie (Wolfe) Smith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Shelia Smith of Livingston; 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Bryan and Satisha Smith of Byrdstown and Scotty Smith of Livingston; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Shannon and Danny Ford of Livingston and Rebekah Smith and Josh Reagan of Livingston; and 8 grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Josh Reagan, Dave Smolneck, Terry Kingery, Mike Hall Mickey Huckeby, and Tracy Welch.

Nora Pearl Taylor
Funeral services for Mrs. Nora Pearl Taylor, 92, of Lincoln Park MI, formerly of Overton County, were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Glen Ledbetter officiating. Burial was in Old Bethel Cemetery.

Mrs. Taylor died Friday, Jan 18 at her home. She was employed by Chrysler Corporation.

Born January 25, 1915, in Pickett County, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Lonzo and Mary Edna Sells.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Othel Taylor; a son, Howard Taylor; a daughter, Hilda Taylor; and 3 brothers, Cordell Sells, Luther Sells, and Shurly Sells.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Ann Taylor of Livonia, MI; a daughter and son-in-law, Peggie Bernice and Joseph Fogal of Taylor, MI; a sister, Mae (Sells) Daniels of Muncie, IN; her grandchildren, Robert W. Kirby Jr. and his wife Deborah, Rick and Lyla, and Kathy and Ken; her great-grandchildren, Shelly and her husband Joe, Adam, Robert, Wendy and Rob, Aaron, and Justin; and her great-great-grandchildren, David, Rachael, Joseph, Jayden, Morgan, Lyla, Regan, Nicholas, Bryan, Mae, and Lewis.

Pallbearers were Randell Sells, Henry Sells, Robert Kirby, Justin Nash, Joseph Mandeville, and Larry Merkley.

Willie “Bill” Wright
Funeral services for Mrs. Willie “Bill” Wright, 73, of Alpine, were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, from the chapel of Mundy Funeral Home in Jamestown with Rev. Jerry Jones and Bro. Rick Cravens officiating. Burial was in Wright Cemetery.

Mrs. Wright died Sunday, Jan. 20 at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a member of Coopers Chapel Church.

Born September 8, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Mitchell and Susie (King) Wright.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Wright; a brother, C.P. “Bud” Wright; 4 sisters, Dutchie Wright, Mamie Whited, Willa Dean Cooper and Savo Wright; and her father- and mother-in-law, Benton and Eva Wright.

Survivors include 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Janice (Wright) and Rev. Jerry Jones of Joelton and Janie (Wright) and David Todd of Alpine; a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Alma Wright of Clarkrange; 4 grandchildren, William Andrew Todd and Benton “B.Jay” Todd, both of Alpine, and Adam Russell Jones and James Mitchell Jones, both of Joelton; a sister-in-law, Shirley Wright of Alpine; and a host of nephews and nieces.

Pallbearers were Matthew Simcox, Freddie Paul, Larry Cooper, Roger Compton, Billy Campau, and Randy Wright.
