Funeral services held for
Mr. Laken Abbett
Laken Abbett, 34, a farmer of the Allons community of the 12th District, died at his home on Saturday, February 20, after an illness of several days. He had been employed for some months on the resettlement project on Mill Creek near Timothy. He was born and reared in the vicinity where he died and was highly respected by his neighbors.
He was the son of Cyrus Abbett and Mrs. Ellis Copeland Abbett, of Allons. Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elana Ruble Abbett and seven small children, also by three sisters, Mrs. Etter Harris, Mrs. Ebb Brown and Mrs. Effie Pennington; and four brothers, Charles, Quittman, James, and William Abbett, all of Overton County.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday morning by the Rev. John M. Brown at the Baptist Church, at the Miller Graveyard, three miles North of Livingston, with burial at that place.
Judge A.F. Officer held
Criminal Court last week
Criminal court here convened Monday with Judge Harry Camp presiding for the day. Since Judge Camp was not well, Judge A.F. Officer relieved him on Tuesday and will preside in court for the balance of the week.
There were 130 cases on the docket Monday and it is thought that these cases will be disposed of this week.
Artie Hodge was appointed foreman of the grand jury for two years. The members of the grand jury selected are: Fowler Fleming, Amos Linder, Tom Ledford, Bob Roberts, Stevie Myers, C.H. Davidson, Andy Franklin, Leo France, M.C. Ogletree, George Young, Hetman Langford, and J.M. Dennis.
Those on trial jury number one are: B. Eubank, John Sidwell, J.F. Hunter, John C. Harris, W.T. Walker, Floyd Holman, W.D. Carmack, Emmit Harris, Johnnie Nelly, Martin Chilton, Don Cooper, and Hermon Moore.

• Misses Lucille Bilbrey and Ora Means have returned to Battle Creek, Mich., after spending their vacation with relatives here.
• Miss Teola Speck and Sam Ross of Cookeville, were married last week.
