Fiske Academy to hold
commencement exercises

Commencement exercises for the Fiske Academy at Hilham, will begin with the baccalaureate service, which will be held at the high school there on Sunday, March 14, at 2:00 p.m. The sermon will be delivered by Dr. A.W. Dieue, professor of physics at the Tennessee Polytechnic Institute at Cookeville.

C lass night will be conducted on Thursday, March 18 at 7:30 p.m. with the following students participating in the program:

Salutatory - Wilford J. Smith; Class Grumbler - Louise Langford; Class Optimist - Edith Thompson; Class Poem - Vonda Ogletree; Prophecy - Agnes Langford; Class Will, Oscar D. Nolen; Giftorian, Gladys Livingston; and Valedictory Address - Howard Carmack.

Items of interest to the housewife

A tablespoon of vinegar will soften glue that has become harden in a bottle.

A pinch of alum added to the water when washing blue or green articles of clothing will prevent the clothes from running.

Press woolens the right sight up with a woolen pressing cloth. Apply moisture to muslin cloth and top of wool and press with hot iron.

The stock left from cooked spinach makes a valuable addition to vegetable soup.

Never fasten suspenders below reinforced hems of stockings. Wash stockings with lukewarm lather and squeeze out gently, they’ll ladder if they are wrung.

Don’t use any kind of artificial heat for drying stockings. Hang by the toes in an airy place to dry and don’t fold away damp.

Two or three slices of bacon placed on top of liver loaf during baking adds to the flavor.

Wash sweaters on a windy day, then put in a pillow case or twine bag out to dry. Shake often until dry. All knit or crocheted articles should be dried in this way if you want them to keep their shape.
