“Miss Overton County” selected in beauty contest held Monday
Miss Jeanette Julian, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Julian of Livingston, was selected as “Miss Overton County” at a beauty contest held here in the grammar school auditorium on Monday night, sponsored by the Livingston Parent-Teacher’s Association.
Miss Julian was sponsored in this contest by the Ideal Dry Cleaners.
Richard J. Boswell, 91, of Allred, dies recently
Richard J. Boswell, 91, a highly respected farmer and the eldest person in his community, died Tuesday, May 18, at 6 p.m. at his home in Allred, tenth district, after a brief illness. However, he had been inactive for 20 years on account of impaired vision.
He came of a pioneer family who were among the first settlers of the West Fork section, and was born at the place where he died, having spent his entire life there.
His wife, Nancy Looper Boswell, died four years ago. Mr. Boswell had been a Christian seventy years and a deacon in the Missionary Baptist Church at Falling Springs since the year 1868.
He is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Mary Poston, wife of O. Poston, Mrs. Martha B. Poston, wife of John W. Poston, Mrs. Lou Lee, Mrs. Janie Smith, wife of Walter Smith, Mrs. Sallie Smith, wife of Curtis Smith, and four sons, Lewis, Hilory, and Lloyd Boswell, of Overton County, and George Boswell, of Texas.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, at 2 p.m., by the Rev. B.M. Smith of the Missionary Baptist Church at Falling Springs with burial in that place.
