Big Independence Day
celebration is planned here
Livingston is to have a big Independence Day celebration Monday, July 5th, according to an announcement made today. Many prizes will be offered for numerous contests which will be held during the day.
Only a tentative program has been arranged. The complete program will be published next week.
There will be a fiddler’s contest, a nail driving contest for ladies and many others in which money and prizes will be given to the winners.
A prize will be given to the largest family present and one to the largest number of people coming to town on a single vehicle. A free license and surprise package will be given to the first couple getting married on the grounds that day.
There will be speeches, music made by duets, quartets and string bands, and many other forms of entertainment to make those present enjoy the day. A large crowd is expected.
Criminal Court will start
here next Monday
The regular session of Overton County Criminal Court will be held at Livingston beginning on Monday, June 21. Judge John A. Mitchell, the new criminal judge appointed to succeed the late Judge Harry Camp, will preside and the new Attorney-General, Baxter Key, and assistant Attorney-General, Scott Camp, will represent the state.
The unusually large docket is composed of 87 misdemeanor cases, 20 felony cases, and 64 bound over cases, 171 in all.
The venire selected is as follows:
1st District – J.L. Gibbons and Alvin Bilbrey;
2nd District – W.J. Matthews and Clennie Holloway;
3rd District – Price Lynn and J.T. Boyd;
4th District – J.H. Glasscock and A.B. Smith;
5th District – Shirley Bilbrey and Bluford Jones;
6th District – Bob Duke and Norman Ledbetter;
7th District – Ben Reagan and Claude Ferrell;
8th District – W.M. Norrod and C.P. Phillips;
9th District – M.C. Norrod and Horace Phillips;
10th District – Jared Richard and Center Norris;
11th District – Ernest Franklin and Thomas Williams; and
12th District – Walter Gilpatrick and Fate Gunnels.
