Emery Duke competes in Gymnastics Championship

Emery Duke recently competed in the Tennessee Men’s State Gymnastics Championship in Chattanooga as a Level 5 gymnast and placed 2nd on still rings and 3rd on floor exercise. He took 6th place overall in the state and became a member of the Tennessee Men’s State Team to compete in the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympics Region 8 (Southeastern 7 States) Championship held in Knoxville. Emery trains at Victory Gymnastics in Cookeville.

He is the son of Jason and Tonia Duke, of Livingston, the grandson of Bob and Mary Howell, of Allred, and Earl and Mildred Duke, of Old Hickory, and the great grandson of Rubye Howell, of Allred, and Vernon and Meekle Boswell, also of Allred.

Lander to compete at Spring Fling

Livingston Academy Track & Field Team member Kalihib Lander has qualified for the Spring Fling State Championships to be held this week at Middle Tennessee State University.

He placed in two events in the Class A-AA Middle Sectional held at David Lipscomb on Tuesday, May 15. He took 1st place in the Triple Jump with a 41 feet, 3 inch jump, and placed 2nd in the Long Jump with a 21 feet, 1.75 inch leap.

LA Track & Field Coach Merl Smith said, “He has done a very good job all year. Kalihib is a tremendous athlete and will be competitive at the state meet.

“He has worked hard at it all four years here, and has been very good at cross country as well as track and field.”

By qualifying for the Spring Fling, Lander is now among the state’s Elite
Eight.

Lander, who graduated last Friday, will compete in the state competition at MTSU on Friday, May 25. The Triple Jump will be held at 12:15 p.m., and the Long Jump will be held at 2:15 p.m.

As a team, Livingston Academy placed 5th in the sectional, and LA’s Josh Looper took 1st place in the Shot Put with a 49-foot toss.

LA Soccer falls to Portland

Portland High School put in 2 second half goals to end the Livingston Academy Wildcats’ 2007 soccer season.

The Hog-Eye squad matched Portland throughout the first half of the Region 4-A/AA semifinals played on Livingston Academy’s home turf on Tuesday, May 15. The two teams were locked in a 0-0 tie at halftime.

In the 52nd minute of the game, Portland’s Fabian Paul scored off a free kick that bounded off the crossbar and into the net. Paul later used his head to score the final goal of the game, defeating LA 2-0.

 

Huckeby Construction leads Men’s Softball League

Huckeby Construction leads Overton County Men’s Softball League with a 5-1 record. Pug’s Tanks moved from last place to 2nd by winning all three games the team played last week.
