Dolores V. Brown
Funeral services for Mrs. Dolores V. Brown, 77, of the Springcreek Community of Overton County, were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Loftis officiating. Burial was in Fellowship Cemetery.

Mrs. Brown died Wednesday, Oct. 3 at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a nursing assistant formerly with Cookeville Regional Medical Center and a member of Netherland Church of Christ.

Born May 20, 1930, in Bayonne, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Anna (Loujewski) Ventola.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmon “Hoss” Brown; her sister, Merrelyn Flores; and her step-father, Karol Piagkwitz.

Survivors include a brother, Vincent Ventola of Bowie, MD; a sister, Felicia Sidley of Aken, SC; a brother-in-law, Luther Brown of Cookeville; a sister-in-law, Mildred Maynord of Cookeville; several nephews and nieces; and her church family.

Pallbearers were Calvin Bilbrey, Ray Austin, Rick Ramsey, Junior Cowan, Bob Roberson, and Steve Tillman.

Norman Ray Everett
Funeral services for Mr. Norman Ray Everett, 64, of Livingston, were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Stringer officiating. Burial, with full military honors provided by James T. Davis Memorial Post 5062, was in Harris Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Everett died Thursday, Sept. 27 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was an electrician for Ford Motor Company, a veteran of the United States Air Force, and a member of the local 111 of the UAW.

Born January 5, 1943, in Edwardsport, IN, he was the son of Robert Merlin Everett of Vincennes, IN and the late Mary Elizabeth (Simmons) Everett.

Survivors, in addition to his father, include his wife, Sheryl Everett of Livingston; 3 sons, Robert Matthew Everett of Livingston, Terry Neil Everett of Vincennes, and Tyson Glenn Everett of England; a daughter, Rachel (Everett) Shaver of Livingston; a half-sister, Linda Ruszkowski; and a grandson, Shane Shaver of Livingston.

Clyde Preston Franklin
Funeral services for Mr. Clyde Preston Franklin, 89, of Monroe, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at Brown Funeral Chapel in Byrdstown with Bro. Jeff Flowers and Bro. Austin Flowers officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Pickett County.

Mr. Franklin died Saturday, Oct. 6 at his home. He was a retired coal miner, a General Motors employee, a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II as a tech sergeant, and a member of Oak Grove Church. He also enjoyed painting as a hobby.

Born September 10, 1918, in Wilder, he was the son of the late Elwood and Elsie (Smith) Franklin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Cecile Margaret Franklin; 2 sisters, Louise Huff and Jeraldine McIntire; and a grandson, Shane Gessford.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda (Kennedy) Franklin of Monroe; a daughter, Loranna Gaye Saulter of Muncie, IN; a step-son, Tony Cooper of Monroe; a step-daughter, Angela Robinson of Monroe; a brother, Carl Franklin of Oklahoma; a grandchild, Glenn Allen Kreider of Arizona; and other family members and friends.

Pallbearers were Dudley Kennedy, Mike Keel, Chris Robinson, Terry Byrd, Peanut Bilbrey, and Dusty Byrd.

Linnie Hazel Garrett
Funeral services for Mrs. Linnie Hazel Garrett, 79, of Livingston, were conducted Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007, from the chapel of Hall Funeral Home with Bro. Terry McCloud officiating. Burial was in Hoover Cemetery in Allons.

Mrs. Garrett died Monday, Oct. 1 at Bethesda Health Care Center. She was a retired nurse.

Born March 28, 1928, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Billy and Ova (Ledbetter) Carr.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Avle Garrett.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, David and Tammy Garrett of Monroe; 2 brothers, A.B. Carr of Livingston and Johnny Carr of Texas; 2 sisters, Mable Dishman and Allie Dishman, both of Livingston; and 2 grandchildren, Julie Garrett and Rebecca Garrett, both of Monroe.

Pallbearers were Brad Summers, Tracy Sells, Mike White, Charles Ledbetter, Royce Ledbetter, and Timmy White.

Woodrow Grant Hogue

Funeral services for Mr. Woodrow Grant Hogue, 95, of Livingston, were conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Honeycutt officiating. Burial was in Miller Cemetery.

Mr. Hogue died Tuesday, Oct. 2 at Overton County Nursing Home. He was a construction worker, a veteran of the United States Navy serving in World War II, and a member of Allons Baptist Church.

Born Oct. 9, 1911, in Fentress County, he was the son of the late Albert Ross and Josie (Abbott) Hogue. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Houston Hogue and Alvin Hogue; and 4 sisters, Margaret Crawford, Edna Hallowell, Betty Turner, and Joann Randel.

Survivors include his wife, Vera Hogue of Livingston; 3 sons and a daughter-in-law, David and Ruth Hogue, Michael Hogue, and Donald Hogue, all of Livingston; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Roger Hogue, Shane Hogue, Grant Hogue, Boone Dishman, Tim Walker, and Randy Walker.

Honorary pallbearers were Mike McCormick, Carvel Winningham, Dallas Winningham, Danny Dishman, and Harold Gore.

Thelma Jernigan
Funeral services for Mrs. Thelma Jernigan, 81, of Monterey, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Bowman officiating. Burial was in Whittaker Cemetery. Mrs. Jernigan died Friday, Oct. 5 at Standing Stone Care and Rehabilitation Center in Monterey. She was a homemaker, a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 6277, a member of the XYZ class, a member of Monterey Senior Citizens, and a member of Monterey First Baptist Church.

Born June 10, 1926, in Fentress County, she was the daughter of the late Tucker and Mary Jane (McCloud) Robinson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas H. Jernigan; a daughter, Linda Kay Howard; a brother, Roy Robinson; and 3 sisters, Pearl Parrott, Helen Ford, and Barbara Phillips Cole.

Survivors include 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Fred and Joan Jernigan of Monterey and Ted and Carolyn Jernigan of Cookeville; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Rev. Eugene McCowan of Monterey and Brenda and Laddie Wilson of Gallatin; a sister, Dean Wilcox Eldridge of Monterey, 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Raymond Norman of Monterey.

Mattie (Fletcher) Kennedy
Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie (Fletcher) Kennedy, 90, of Cookeville, were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Craig Green officiating. Burial was in Overton County Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Kennedy died Friday, Sept. 28 at Bethesda Health Care Center. She was a homemaker and a member of Smith Chapel Methodist Church.
Born October 18, 1916, in Clay County, she was the daughter of the late William and Angie (Moredoc) Fletcher.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Willie Bedford Daniels and Walter “Sy” Kennedy; 3 brothers, Johnny Fletcher, Bethel Fletcher, and Frank Fletcher; a sister, Pauline Reeder; 3 half-brothers, Eddie Fletcher, Bert Fletcher, and Gilbert Fletcher; and a half-sister, Ida Willis.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Cleston and Edna Daniels of Livingston; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Jim Werden of Charleston, SC and Marie and Marion Wright of Cookeville; 8 grandchildren, Bryan Wright, Regina Wright, Chris Werden, Mark Daniels, Wilma Daniels, Aurora Daniels, Michael Daniels and Heather Daniels; 5 great-grandchildren, John Wright, Jack Wright, Shauz Daniels, Solomon Daniels, and Christian Joseph Staton; and a sister-in-law, Dulcie Garrett of Livingston.

Pallbearers were Bryan Wright, John Wright, Jack Wright, Chris Werden, Chris McGee, Mark A. Daniels, and Shauz Daniels.
