Katherine Josephine Cook
Funeral services for Mrs. Katherine Josephine Cook, 77, of the Vines Ridge Community of Overton County, were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2007, from Vines Ridge Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. David Phillips and Rev. Richie Farley officiating. Burial was in Phillips Cemetery.

Mrs. Cook died Tuesday, July 17, at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a member of Vines Ridge Missionary Baptist Church, where she faithfully attended for more than 30 years.

Born February 12, 1930, in Wilder, she was the daughter of the late Martha Jane Howard and step-daughter of the late Lester Howard. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Gladys Gragg and Bonnie Fink.

Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Doyle and Patty Howard of the Vines Ridge community; 5 sisters and 3 brothers-in-law, Pauline and Leck Wilson of Hanging Limb, Marie Odle and Joyce Lusk, both of Monterey, and Lois and Billy Wilson and Faye and Donnie Bowman, all of the Vines Ridge community; and several nephews and nieces.

Pallbearers were Matthew Copeland, Deven Copeland, Levi Raines, Tate Miller, Tommy Raines, and Jimmy Copeland.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were Nate Farley, Noah Farley, Jesse
Raines, Sarah Raines, Sidney Miller, Claris Copeland, and Jayda Hancock.

Janet “O.Z.” Dekert
A memorial service for Mrs. Janet “O.Z.” Dekert, 91, of Gross Pointe Wood, MI, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2007, at Flatt Creek Church of Christ.

Mrs. Dekert died May 3, 2007, in Gross Pointe Wood.

Born January 7, 1916, in Red Boiling Springs, she was the daughter of the late James Jefferson and Annie Mae Halfacre. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elgin “Jim” Dekert; 5 brothers, Hank Halfacre, Cordell Halfacre, Leo Halfacre, Leathers Halfacre, and James Halfacre; and 4 sisters, Alice Dudek, Thelma Masters, Grace Williams, and Juanita Ruhf.

Survivors include a sister, Neoma Meadows of Livingston and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends. (P)

Lucille Holton
Funeral services for Mrs. Lucille Holton, 81, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2007, from the chapel of Hall Funeral Home with Bro. Don Maxson officiating. Burial was in Overton County Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Holton died Sunday, July 22 at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was co-owner of G & L Manufacturing in Livingston.

Born October 24, 1925, in Emmanuel County, GA, she was the daughter of the late James Noah and Sarah Stella (Steptoe) Coleman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George L. Holton, 11 brothers and sisters, a son-in-law, Ralph Jenkins, and a great-grandchild, Jessica Marian Holton.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Diane Holton of Tacula, GA, a daughter, Judy Jenkins, of Livingston; a brother, Sam Coleman of Uvalda, GA; 2 sisters, Eunice Hopkins and Mary Phillips, both of Soperton, GA; 7 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Matthew Kilgore, Mike Holton, Joey Williams, Nathan Holton, Shannon Cox, Steve Thompson, and Brian Boles.

Amanda (Walker) Kockx
Funeral services for Mrs. Amanda (Walker) Kockx, 40, of Cookeville, were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, July 23, 2007, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Roberson officiating. Burial was in F. A. Norrod Cemetery in Hanging Limb.

Mrs. Kocks died Thursday, July 19 at her home. She was a homemaker and attended Trinity Assembly in Algood.

Born December 1, 1966 in Monterey, she was the daughter of Leonard Ray and Irene Walker of Hanging Limb. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Farris and Maude Cook and Claude Walker.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include her husband, Michael Kockx of Cookeville; her grandmother, Roxie Walker of Hanging Limb; 2 daughters, Ashley Tays and Brittney Amber Tays, both of Monterey; a brother, Leonard Walker of Hanging Limb; a sister, Angela Walker of Baxter; 4 stepchildren, Matthew Kockx and his wife Lindsey of Washington, DC, Ryan Tellberg and his wife Laura of Sioux Falls, SD, Christopher Kockx of Newport Rickey, FL, and Whitney Kockx of Tampa, FL; 2 grandchildren, Adrian Tays and Gavin Kerley; 2 step-grandchildren, Halo Kockx and Haven Kockx; and her father- and mother-in-law, Dale John and Janice Kockx of Sioux City.

Cleo Martin
Mr. Cleo Martin, 74, died Saturday, July 9, 2007, in Sacramento, CA.

He was a retired United States Air Force Technical Sergeant.

He was the son of the late Rosco and Annis Martin of the Ozone Community. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Tim Martin; 3 brothers, Oscar Martin, Colbert Martin, and Paul Martin; and a sister, Emmagene Garrett.

Survivors include his wife, Diana Martin of Sacramento; a son, David, of Sacramento; 2 daughters, Lisa and Lori, both of Sacramento; a brother, Will J. Martin of Monroe; and several nephews and nieces. (P)

Ralph Vaughn
Funeral services for Mr. Ralph Vaughn, 69, of Monterey, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2007, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Bilbrey and Rev. Steve Parker officiating. Burial was in Phillips Cemetery in the Anderson community of Overton County.

Mr. Vaughn died Friday, July 20 at his home.

Born December 10, 1937, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Markles and Sarah Clarcy Forster Vaughn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 9 brothers and sisters, Sally Mae Vaughn, J. D. Vaughn, Julie Ann Vaughn, Dorathy Ellen Vaughn, Claude Vaughn, Earlene Phillips, Tennie Murphy, Miller Vaughn, and Clary Bowman.

Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Jolene (Copeland) Clark Vaughn of Monterey; a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Cynthia Eldridge of Livingston; a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Glen McGinnis of Byrdstown; 2 brothers, James Vaughn of the Anderson community and Robert F. Vaughn of Monterey; a sister, Gladys Ena Bilbrey of the Love Joy community; 3 stepsons, Danny Copeland and his wife Sandy of Albany, KY, Barger Clark and his wife Diana of Monterey, and Woodrow Clark of Middletown, OH; a stepdaughter, Diane Jewell of Miamisburg, OH; 2 grandchildren, Lois Neal and Becky Neal; 9 step-grandchildren, Debbie Copeland, Amy Reason, Mary Ellen Jewell, Joseph Copeland, Matthew Jewell, Gwen Clark, Katrina Clark, Ryan Clark, and Shea Bowell; and 5 step great-grandchildren, Emma, Jessy, Mikki, Danille, and Jasmine.

Linda Sue (Qualls) Winningham
Funeral services for Mrs. Linda Sue (Qualls) Winningham, 60, of Cookeville, were conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 22, 2007, from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home in Cookeville with Dudley Horton and Bro. Charlie Hutchinson officiating. Burial was in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Winningham died Thursday, July 19 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was a devoted, loving wife, mother, and grandmother (Gran) who loved to travel, shop, and spend time with her family. She was a wonderful cook and loved to serve as hostess for family and friends. She was co-owner of Bonanza homes with her husband Deloy for 33 years until her retirement, worked at Wilson Sporting Goods, and Livingston Shirt Factory. She was of the Baptist faith.

Born January 11, 1947, in Rickman, she was the daughter of the late J.W. and Edith V. (Bilbrey) Qualls. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Craig Fitzgerald Winningham; maternal grandparents Wilburn and Cora Bilbrey; paternal grandparents, K.R. and Daisy Qualls; a brother, Danny Qualls; and a sister, Mildred Qualls.

Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Thomas Deloy Winningham of Cookeville; a son and daughter-in-law, Chris A. and Debbie Winningham of Cookeville; a brother, Harold Qualls of Nashville; a sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Jim Bean, of Rickman; a grandson, Alex Winningham of Cookeville; 2 granddaughters, Taylor R. Winningham and her mother, Lori Betcher of Cookeville and Haley S. Winningham and her mother Felicia Winningham of Cookeville; a soon-to-be granddaughter, Lily Winningham of Cookeville; a nephew, Jimmy Bean of Knoxville; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Pallbearers were Dewey McDaniel, Daulis Walker, Jimmy Bean, Larry Dunn, Donald Ray Winningham, Mark Rogers, and Wayne Scott.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, Diabetes Association, or the Kidney Foundation.
