Grady Brian Carter
Mr. Grady Brian Carter, 82, of Albany, GA, died Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at Phoebe Putnam Memorial Hospital in Albany. He was an executive sales manager with Firestone Tire Company, a veteran of the U. S. Marines, serving on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific during World War II.

The family chose cremation and no services are planned at this time.

Born April 16, 1925, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Luther and Lina Carter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Curtis Carter, Claude Carter, Carl Carter, and Waymon Carter; and a sister, Maggie Pate.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Waymon and Joyce Carter; a brother, Clifford Carter; 4 grandchildren, Andrea and her husband Eric, Bronwyn and her husband Nick, and Dan and Morgan; 4 great-grandchildren, Melinie, Andrea, Rylie, and Brena; and several other family and friends in Overton County.

Memorials may be made to Albany Senior Center, 311 Pine Ave., Albany,
GA, 31701.

Thomas Jerry Cooper
Funeral services for Mr. Thomas Jerry Cooper, 59, of Livingston, were conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 12, 2007, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Sebastia officiating. Burial was in Bowmer Cemetery.

Mr. Cooper died Monday, July 9 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a heavy equipment operator and a veteran of the United States Army.

Born August 31, 1947, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Virgil Granville and Billie Ruth (Bowmer) Cooper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Cooper.

Survivors include his wife, Debra Cooper of Livingston; a daughter, Tonya Burnsides of Cookeville; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Virgil and Donna Cooper of Livingston and Jeff and Sherry Cooper of Monroe; a granddaughter, Alex Burnsides; and an uncle Doug Bowmer and his wife Wilma of Anderson, IN.

Pallbearers were Tracey Milsap, Jeremy Rector, Jason and Jim Calder, Jordy Choate, and Brian Derryberry.

Tyler Millsap served as honorary pallbearer.

Ollie A. Geiger
Funeral services for Mrs. Ollie A. Geiger, 88, of Anderson, IN, will be conducted at 10:30 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2007, from the chapel of Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home with Kent Stookey officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Geiger died Saturday, July 14 at Bethany Pointe Health Campus after an extended illness. She retired from J.C. Penney after 27 years of employment.

Born March 24, 1919, in Hilham, she was the daughter of J.B. and Avo (Bailey) Ayers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Geiger; and her son, James Lester Geiger.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Teresa Geiger of Jonesborough; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Glenn Scott of Anderson; 5 grandchildren, Rick Scott and his wife Sandy of Indianapolis, IN, Jerry Scott and his wife Lori of Lapel, Chris Scott of Tampa, FL, Michael Scott of Sarasota, FL, and Angela Scott of Cicero, IN; 4 great-grandchildren, Jennifer Scott, Melissa Scott, Zach Scott, and Ryan Scott; a special niece, Patty Hamilton of Anderson; and several nephews and nieces.

Beecher Phillips
Funeral services for Mr. Beecher Phillips, 54, of Monterey, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2007, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home with Rev. David Harris officiating. Burial was in F.A. Norrod Cemetery in Hanging Limb.

Mr. Phillips died Thursday, July 12 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was a saw mill worker and was of the Baptist faith.

Born May 19, 1953, in Monterey, he was the son of the late Harson and
Beulah Mae (Murphy) Phillips. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 infant children, Amanda Phillips and Lance Phillips; and 2 brothers, Bracy Phillips and Johnny Phillips.

Survivors include 4 sons and a daughter-in-law, Noah and Amanda Phillips of Livingston, Daniel Phillips of Cookeville, and Beecher Phillips Jr. and Charleston Phillips, both of Monterey; 2 daughters, Regina Phillips and Fa-londa Phillips, both of Monterey; 3 brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Gail Phillips and Steve and Judy Phillips, both of Monterey, and Jackie and Darlene Phillips of Cookeville; 3 sisters and 2 brothers-in-law, Shirley Vaughn, Linda and Ed Powell, and Kay and Dwain Jernigan, all of Monterey; 2 special nieces, Sandy Sampley and her husband Norman and Norma Jean Freeman; and numerous other nephews and nieces.

Juanita Qualls
Funeral services for Mrs. Juanita Qualls, 79, of Rickman, were conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 12, 2007, at Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church with Bro. Nolan Cantrell and Pastor Marvin Saylor officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.

Mrs. Qualls died Monday, July 9 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was a factory worker with Adams USA Sporting Goods and attended Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church.

Born October 1, 1927, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late John and Bessie (Bilbrey) Blaylock. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Guy M. Qualls; a daughter, Evelyn Qualls; a brother, Joe Blaylock; and 7 infant brothers and sisters.

Survivors include a daughter, Koleta Pearson of Rickman; a brother and sister-in-law, J.W. and Floy Blaylock of Crossville; a sister and brother-in-law Marie and Burton McNeal of Crossville; a special sister, Anna Campbell of Rickman; a grandson, Tom Pearson of Rickman; 2 great-grandchildren, Mike and Ally Pearson; a sister-in-law, Hazel Blaylock of Crossville; and a host of nephews and nieces.

Pallbearers were Norman Campbell, O.L. Sullivan, Tom Pearson, Mike Pearson, Scotty Finley, and Ridley Lee.

Joshua Glenn Smith
Funeral services for Mr. Joshua Glenn Smith, 22, of Livingston, were conducted Saturday, July 14, 2007, from the chapel of Rickman-Hall Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Roberts officiating. Burial was in Cash Cemetery.

Mr. Smith died Tuesday, July 10 at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga.

Born October 10, 1984, he was the son of Linda Smith of Rickman. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alene and Martin White.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include 2 sisters, Jessica Hargis of Baxter and Ashley Mathis of Cookeville; a half-brother, James Taylor of Anderson, IN; his grandmother and grandfather, Mary Catherine and Junior Stover of Livingston; an uncle, Jimmy Smith of Livingston; 2 aunts, Brenda Eldridge of the Oak Grove community and Patricia Qualls of Sparta; and a host of cousins, family and friends.

Pallbearers were Billy Eldridge, Jimmy Smith, Carson Hancock, Danny Ledbetter, Johnathan Fisher, and Cody Stout.
