Elizabeth Ann (Norrod) Burgess
Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Ann (Norrod) Burgess, 30, of Baxter, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2007, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey with Dr. Tim Adams and Rev. Rick Burnett officiating. Burial will be in Phillips Cemetery in Hanging Limb.

Ms. Burgess died Saturday, May 5 in Baxter. She was a graduate of Cookeville High School, earned a B.S. degree in nursing from TTU, and worked as a registerd nurse at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She graduated from Ball State University in December 2005 with a master’s degree in advanced practice nursing and began working for the State of Tennessee as an adult nurse practitioner. She was a wonderful loving mother, a precious daughter, and a gifted and talented nurse. She worshiped her Lord and Savior at Wilhite Baptist Church.

Born April 13, 1977, in Grosse Point, MI, she was the daughter of Mary Ann (Gragg) Norrod of Cookeville and the late Maurice Norrod.

Survivors, in addition to her mother, include a son, Jacob Richard Burgess of Baxter; a daughter, Madison Sloan Colson of Baxter; 2 brothers, Daniel Norrod of Cookeville and Rick Evans of Sacramento, CA; 2 sisters, Denise Bolden of Cullum, AL, and Ava Blaylock of Monterey; and 5 nephews and nieces.

A fund has been set up at Bank of Putnam County for her two children. Donations may be made at any branch.

Arnold Gentry Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. Arnold Gentry Jr., 71, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2007, from the chapel of Hall Funeral Home in Livingston with Bro. Bud Hargis officiating. Burial was in Beaty Cemetery in the Monroe Community.

Mr. Gentry died Wednesday, May 2 at Livingston Regional Hospital.

Born August 19, 1935, in Putnam County, he was the son of the late Arnold Gentry Sr. and Lona Belle (Dodson) Gentry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Claudale Gentry.

Survivors include 2 sons, Randy Gentry of Rickman and Ricky Gentry of Orlando, FL; a daughter, Linda S. Paul of Allons; 2 brothers, Arlow Gentry of Cookeville and Howard Gentry of Peru, IN; a sister, Eula Mae of California; 4 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Billy Laird
Funeral services for Mr. Billy Laird, 63, of Hanging Limb, were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2007, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home with Rev. David Harris officiating. Burial was in Welch Memorial Cemetery in Monterey.

Masonic funeral rites were conducted at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 7.

Mr. Laird died Saturday, May 5 at his home. He retired from Levi Strauss & Company as a customer service representative in 1999 and opened Tobacco Alley in Monterey in 2003. He was a member of Livingston Masonic Lodge #259, the Al Menah Temple Shrine in Nashville, and was Past President of Upper Cumberland Shrine Club.

Born September 17, 1943, in Catron, MO, he was the son of the late Floyd and Lucille (Humphry) Laird. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Bobby and Tommy Laird.

Survivors include his wife of almost 48 years, Ruby (Dowty) Laird of Hanging Limb, a son, Billy Laird of Mountain City; 4 daughters and 3 sons-in-law, Cathy Russell and Vicky and Phil Nichols, all of Knoxville, Ashlie Laird and Trish and Mike Roper, all of Hanging Limb; 2 brothers, Raymond Laird of Sikeston, MO and Donald Laird of Belleville, MO; 4 sisters, Betty McKeel and Ruby Herbst, both of Mansfield, MO, Janet Carrell of Labadie, MO, and Shirley Garner of Monett, MO; and 3 grandchildren, Tiffany Hatmaker, William Ray Whitt, and Jason Roper.

Daisey Phillips
Funeral services for Mrs. Daisey Phillips, 87, of the Mineral Springs community in Monterey, were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2007, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home with Rev. Cleston Ledbetter and Mrs. Phillips’ son, Rev. Donnie Phillips, officiating. Burial was in Welch Memorial Cemetery in Monterey.

Mrs. Phillips died Wednesday, May 2 at Standing Stone Care and Rehabilitation Center in Monterey. She was a homemaker, a member of Green Pond Order of Eastern Star Chapter 482, and a member of Union Grove Freewill Baptist Church.

Born June 1, 1919, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Andy and Ollie (Testement) Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Phillips; her step-mother, Lancy (Phillips) Smith; 2 brothers, Clayton Smith and Clyde Smith; a grandson, Bethel “Junior” Phillips Jr.; 2 great-grandsons, Matthew Phillips and Joseph Phillips; and a great-great-grandson, Landon Coomer.

Survivors include 4 sons and daughters-in-law, Clifford and Frances Phillips, Donnie and Pansy Phillips, and Bethel Phillips, all of Monterey, and Doyle and Georganna Phillips of Anderson, IN; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Willie Whittaker and Anna Pearl and Roland Whittaker, all of Monterey; 16 grandchildren, Kenny Phillips, Mike Phillips, Doug Phillips, Charlie Phillips, Steve Phillips, Kim Loveall, Jimmy Phillips, Carmen Roberson, Earl Phillips, Cindy Whittaker, Jackie Pemerton, Greg Whittaker, Debbie Thompson, Jamie Phillips, Jason Phillips, and Heather Dennis; 37 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Jessie Arlo Reid
Funeral services for Mr. Jessie Arlo Reid, 89, of Livinston, were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2007, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Campbell officiating.
Burial was in Eckels Cemetery.

Mr. Reid died Monday, April 30 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of Shiloh Methodist Church.

Born February 25, 1918, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Porter and Bertha (Echel) Reid. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vauda Vella Reid; 3 brothers, Claude Reid, Oscar Reid, and Owen Reid, an infant brother, Willie Reid; and 4 sisters, Clara Reid, Corey Norrod, Cleo Breeding, and Mertie Brown.

Survivors include 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Vonda Reid and Gary and Peggy Reid, all of Rickman; 4 grandchildren, Derwin Reid, Donovan Reid, Donna Ray, and Robyn Carwile; and 3 great-grandchildren, Lindsey Carwile, Bryson Carwile, and Kaden Ray.
Pallbearers were Tim Reid, Wallace Reid, David Reid, Bill Geller, Joe Brown, Roger Clouse, and Earl Loftis.

Randall Dulworth
Funeral services for Mr. Randall Dulworth, 85, of Livingston, were conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2007, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Kerry Duke officiating. Burial, with full military honors provided by James T. Davis Memorial Post 5062, was in Overton County Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Dulworth died Tuesday, May 1 at Cookeville Regional Hospital. He worked in road construction as a truck driver and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Born October 9, 1921, in Willow Grove, he was the son of the late Elliott Ray and Buna Elizabeth (McClusky) Dulworth.

Survivors include his wife, Sidney Dulworth of Livingston; a son and
daughter-in-law, James and Linda Dulworth of Rickman; a daughter, Carol Nivens of Livingston; a sister, Christine Upchurch of Livingston; 2 grandsons, Phillip Nivens and Shane Nivens; 3 great-grandchildren, Sidnie Paige Nivens, Reagan Shane Nivens, and Laken Ann Nivens.
Pallbearers were Phillip Nivens, Shane Nivens, B.J.Nivens, Fred Amonett, Edwin Bryant, and Charles Lindsey.

Bennie Oakley
Funeral services for Mrs. Bennie Oakley, 75, of Livingston, were conducted on Sunday, May 6, 2007, at First United Methodist Church in Livingston with Bro. Craig Green officiating. Burial was in Overton County Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Oakley died Friday, May 4.

Born September 7, 1931, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Curtis and May (Qualls) Norrod. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, R.B. Oakely Jr; 2 brothers, Bill Norrod and E.C. Norrod; and 2 sisters, Viola Bowman and Virgie Krantz.

Survivors include 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Burt and Sherian Oakley of Tullahoma and Ben and Susan Oakley of Livingston; a brother, F. B. Norrod of Dry Hollow Community; 4 sisters, Johnnie Cook of Livingston, and Juanella Shea, Georgie Honeycutt, and Opal Krantz, all of the Dry Hollow Community; and 2 grandchildren, Bria Oakley and Ty Sparkman.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The EDGE, First United Methodist Church in Livingston, or American Cancer Society.
