School Board meeting held July 10

By DEWAIN E. PEEK,
OCN staff

Overton County Board of Education held the regular monthly meeting Tuesday, July 10, with Board member Patricia Bowman absent.

The installation of a door security system for Livingston Academy was approved at $9,975 from Fairway Supply. The expense will be paid by Livingston Academy and the installation will be prior to the 2007-2008 school year.

Livingston Academy Principal Randy Hankins was present to answer questions and Board member Mark Peek asked if the new doors would replace the existing doors or if they would be a second set.

Principal Hankins said, “It will be a second set that will be flush with the offset, and then we’ll have a door opening where we come into the main office, and it will be a better flow. We have a lot of traffic that goes in and out of that one door, so this will be a smoother transition.

“After the first bell rings, we can lock those doors, and any student who is late has to come through the office and see Miss Loraine.”

Board member Sam Pendergrass asked, “So, they can still exit without going through the office?”

Principal Hankins said the push bars would still open the doors from the inside.

Edwina Coffman’s retirement from the Hilham Elementary School lunchroom was approved.

The resignation of Amelia Peavyhouse Sturgill from the A.H. Roberts Elementary School Pre-K was approved. According to Director of Schools Mike Gilpatrick, she has taken a position in Fentress County to work closer to her home.

The comprehensive plan for the 2007-2008 Special Education Budget was approved.

In executive action, the bid of Tri County Propane for propane services at Hilham Elementary School and Wilson Elementary School was approved at $1.389 per gallon.

Chairman Tim Coffee said, “That was a really good price.”

The bid of Livingston Limestone for bus tires, tubes, and recapping was
approved as follows: new 10/22.5 radial with rock compound 14-ply – $196.36; new 1100/22.5 radial with rock compound 16-ply – $212; recapping 10/22.5 radial carcass – $127.50; recapping 1100/22.5 radial carcass – $127.50.

The bid of Coleman Oil Company for oil, antifreeze, automatic transmission fluid, oil filters, and batteries was approved as follows: 6-gallon case of antifreeze – $4.50 each; 6-gallon case of diesel oil 15W40 – $38; 12 quarts per case of diesel oil 15W40 – $28.80; 12 quarts per case ATF Dexron III – $24.90; 1-year warranty batteries 930 CCA for gas buses – $68.90 and 9040 Group 4 for diesel buses – $132.90; oil filters NAPA 7182 (approximately 40 per year) – $8.20, NAPA 1607 (approximately 40 per year) – $5.50, NAPA 1799 (approximately 4 per year) – $17.05; fuel filters NAPA 3358 (approximately 24 per year) – $6.40, NAPA 3621 (approximately 44 per year) – $15.50, NAPA 3585 (approximately 44 per year) – $9.42, NAPA 3630 (approximately 10 per year) – $20.10.

The meeting adjourned.
