Girl's Basketball 'Camp of Champions'

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -Although he is retiring in September as head coach of the Tennessee Tech women's basketball team, Bill Worrell will be on the sidelines at Eblen Center this summer.

Worrell will direct his final 'Camp of Champions' basketball camp, open to girls ages 9-17, on the TTU campus, June 27-30.

"I look forward to this camp every year, and it's something I'll really miss,"

Worrell said. "I've always enjoyed meeting the young ladies who attend the camp, working with them, and sharing this experience with them.

"I expect this camp to be special," Worrell said.

A four-time OVC Coach of the Year and head coach of Tech"s 15-time OVC champion Eaglettes, Worrell directs the highly successful Camp of Champions, overseeing a hand-picked camp staff that includes Tech's associate head coach Amy Brown, a former Louisiana Tech standout, along with TTU assistant coach Stacie Childress.

The camp's primary purpose is to provide high quality instruction in the basics of basketball. Each camper receives individual instruction from a staff made up of high school and college coaches, as well as several Golden Eaglette standouts.

A sampling of the instructional areas includes ball handling, weight training, shooting and passing, rebounding, the fast break, and individual position play.

Other camp features include:
Camp is sponsored by Nike; each camper receives a Nike t-shirt; Individual station drills; Team competition; Camp store offering snacks, drinks, t-shirts; Awards for hard-work and improvement; Lectures by staff members; Excellent medical and training facilities; College atmosphere.

Most camp activities occur in Tech's Eblen Center, home of the nationally recognized Golden Eaglettes. The physical education building, outdoor tennis courts and indoor swimming pool are also used by campers.

The cost of the camp, which includes insurance, is $240 for boarding campers (including lodging and three meals per day), and $180 for commuting campers (two meals per day).

Worrell and his staff will also host three weeks of team camps, which draw high school programs from throughout the region. The sessions will run June 8-10, June 18-20, and July 24-26.

Registration forms are available via the link above or at Eblen Center ticket office. For additional information, call coach Brown at (931) 372-6292.
