Saturday morning incident that took the life of a 45 year-old Martinsville,
IN, woman. According to reports, 8 persons, all from Indiana, were
aboard the 2002 20-foot Crown Line open boat when it hit an exposed
sand bar around 1 a.m. September 9. The boat flipped multiple times,
ejecting many of the passengers. Robin Bentley died. The boat operator
has been charged with boating under the influence. TWRA Officer
Bill Moulton is investigating the incident.

given disaster designation
As a result of drought and extreme heat that has occurred
since May 1, Overton County has received a disaster designation
from U.S. Department of Agriculture, according to U.S. Representative
Bart Gordon.
"Middle Tennessee's farmers work hard to earn
a living, but Mother Nature sometimes makes it even harder,"
Gordon said. "As a result of this disaster declaration, some
farmers may now be eligible for emergency loans to cope with their
losses.
"I appreciate the USDA's response to this situation."
Governor Phil Bredesen requested a disaster designation for Fentress
County on August 1. USDA reviewed the damage assessment report and
determined there were enough losses to warrant the designation.
Overton County farmers are eligible for assistance
because the county qualifies as a contiguous county to Fentress
County.
The designation makes farm operators in both primary
and contiguous counties eligible to be considered for low-interest
emergency loans from Farm Service Agency, provided eligibility requirements
are met.
Affected farmers can call the local FSA office at
(931) 823-5506 for further information.

Dept. solves Rickman area break-ins
Sheriff's Dept. solves Rickman area break-ins A Rickman
man has been charged in connection with a series of break-ins on
Bilbrey Qualls Road.
According to Sgt. Lee Dulworth, Overton County Sheriff's
Department received information pointing to a possible suspect in
the break-ins, which occurred over a 2-day period beginning Thursday,
Sept. 7 in the early morning hours of approximately midnight to
2:30 a.m.
On Saturday, Sept. 9, George Brandon Brown, of Bilbrey
Qualls Road, allegedly confessed and returned stolen items. Brown
was charged with 4 counts of theft under $500 and with 2 counts
of criminal trespassing.
According to Sgt. Dulworth, the arrest solved 4 cases.
