man dies after log truck crash

Putnam County emergency personnel work at the scene of a log truck
crash on Monterey Highway 84 on Wednesday, May 10. Dewayne Phillips,
56, of Crawford, died from injuries sustained in the crash, which
occurred shortly before 10:30 a.m. According to reports, Phillips
was driving the loaded 1989 Ford tractor-trailer toward Livingston
on Highway 84 in Putnam County when the truck veered to the right
side of the road while going down a hill. The truck traveled along
the gravel shoulder of the road then slid off the highway and struck
a tree. The logs dislodged from the trailer and went into the cab.
Tennessee Highway Patrol Sgt. Kent Norris and Troopers Jeff Brown
and Greg Tramel investigated the incident.

Livingston Police Department officers and drug agents
of the 13th Judicial District Drug and Violent Crime task force
recently made arrests after a purchase of Schedule II narcotics,
morphine, was made on East Main Street.
The business known as Roadhouse BBQ Concessions and
Catering, located at 711 East Main Street, was the scene of the
arrests and seizure of several thousand dollars in cash and more
than 200 Schedule II, Schedule III, and Schedule IV pills.
Also seized on Tuesday, May 9 were a 2001 GMC truck
and a 2001 Volvo car, along with the seizure of a 2003 smoker cooker
grill and a 2002 concession stand trailer and its contents.
Charges were made against Rose E. Rivard, 55, of Hilham,
and Cary Ray Hamlet, 44, of Cookeville. Each were charged on one
count of Sale and Delivery of a Schedule II Narcotic, Morphine,
and were lodged in Overton County Jail.
Livingston Police Chief Roger Phillips praised the
hard work and cooperation of his officers and agents with the 13th
Judicial District Drug Task Force.
Power
outage planned for this Sunday
Upper Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation has
announced a planned power outage for Sunday, May 21 while crews
repair power lines.
The outage will begin at 2 a.m. and last until 4:30
a.m.
Jimmy Johnson, district manager, said, "Those
affected will be residents of east Livingston, Monroe, and Independence.
We are sorry for the inconvenience."
