Cookeville bank robbed, FBI investigating

Surveillance image
A security camera caught this image of the bank robber as he waits for the money he demanded.

A disguised man looking somewhat like Santa Claus arrived at Regions Bank in Cookeville Friday afternoon, Jan. 6, only this "Santa" wasn't carrying a sack full of goodies - he was looking to fill up his bag instead.

Cookeville police officers were dispatched to the 1255 East Spring Street branch of Regions, by Food Lion, around 3 p.m. after receiving a report of robbery.

Employees told investigating officers that a man had entered the bank, approached a teller, and demanded money. The suspect apparently did not display a weapon and did not indicate he had one.

After the teller handed over an undisclosed amount of money, the man left the bank.

He was seen driving away in a white SUV southwest on Neal Street.

The robber is described as white, about 6 feet tall, with a stocky build. He was wearing a long, curly, white wig, a dark-colored jacket, a blue hat, and blue pants. He appeared to have dark facial hair and dark eyebrows.

The FBI is assisting Cookeville Police Department in the investigation.

Anyone who has any information pertaining to the robbery is asked to call Cookeville Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division at (931) 520-5340 or CrimeStoppers at (931) 520-STOP (7867).
