Funeral services held for Mrs. Verla Hicks
Funeral services for Mrs. Verla Ledbetter Hicks, who died Monday, after a few hours illness, were held Wednesday with the Rev. E.M. Smith conducting services. Burial was in the Hyder Cemetery near Alpine.

She departed this life at the age of 33 years, 3 months, and 29 days. She had been a member of the Presbyterian Church at Alpine for a number of years. She was a member of the graduating class of 1928 at Alpine High School.

Verla was dearly loved by all who knew her.

Surviving are her husband, Bernard L. Hicks; three brothers and one sister, Herman Ledbetter of West Virginia, Alonzo and Gordon Ledbetter of Monroe, and Minnie Ledbetter of Detriot, MI.

 

Livingston Academy girls win volleyball tournament
The LA Grammar School Girl's Volleyball Tournament has just been completed, the Sixth Grade girls of LA were victorious.

The team was composed of Lyda Grace Poston, Ann Lollar, Lola Mae Poor, Elese Brooks, Sammie Joice Young, and their teacher, A.H. Poston.

The Boy's tournament will probably start next week.

 

Mr. & Mrs. W.T. Brown celebrate 56th Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. W.T. Brown, of Livingston, celebrated their fifty-sixth wedding anniversary on Wednesday, November 11. They were married November 11, 1880 with Captain William Fleming, who was a minister of the Church of Christ, officiating.

They have lived most of their lives in Overton County and have engaged in the hotel business, proprietors of the Brown Hotel, in Livingston, for the past twenty-eight years.

They have ten children, fifty grandchildren, and twenty-three great-grandchildren.

 

Salesman robbed of $250 by hitch-hikers
Bruce Estes, of Livingston, salesman for Simpson Computing Scales, was robbed near Rockwood on Tuesday, November 17, and about two hundred and fifty dollars in cash was taken.

He had made a sale of a fine set of computing scales and started on his journey, when along the highway he came upon two young men who wanted to ride a few miles with him. He decided to accommodate them and when they were ready to leave the car they drew guns and demanded his money.
