Miss Ruth Murphy wins beauty contest
At a beauty show held at the Dixie Theatre on last Friday night, Mrs. Ruth Murphy was crowned "Miss Overton County".

She was sponsored by E. Douglas White, candidate for mayor, she will go to Nashville in October with all expenses paid in compete with others for the title of "Miss Tennessee" the winner there will get a free trip to Washington on compete for "Miss America".

Miss Teda McGee won the amateur contest. She will also get a free trip to Nashville where the winner will get a free trip to appear on Major Bowes program.

Little Miss Peggy Johnson won the title of "Shirley Temple" and will receive a Shirley Temple dress. She was sponsored by Young's Variety Store.

The beauty show was sponsored by the Parent Teachers Association.

Livingston's 7th Give-Away Day was held on Wed.
The seventh give-away day of the Overton County Agriculture Improvement Association was held here Wednesday and was attended by a large crowd.

The first prize of $25 was awarded to Verna Maynord, second for $12.50 to Mrs. Oscar Bowman, third for $7.50 to James Ledbetter, and fourth of $5 to William Wirmingham. Mayor B.H. Hurst made the awards.

The next give-away day will be Wednesday, July 8, at 2:30 p.m.

Services held for Mr. John T. Cliborn
Mr. John T. Cliborn, age 87, a farmer of the Oakley community of the 7th district, died at the home of his son-in-law, A.L. Cravens, near Livingston, on Tuesday, June 23, at 1 p.m., after a prolonged illness attributable to advanced age.

He was a good citizen and for many years, a faithful member of the Methodist Church.

Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. John Daniels, Mrs. A.L. Cravens, of Overton County, Mrs. Matilda Nation, Mrs. Nancy Pierce, Mrs. Sindy Jones of Oklahoma, and Mrs. Susan Riddle of Kentucky, and two sons, James Cliborn of Overton County and Haywood Cliborn of Oklahoma.

Funeral services were held by the Rev. Millard Hayslup at the Sells graveyard in the 7th district on Wedesday, at 1 o'clock p.m. with burial at that place.
