Samuel Thomas of the Alpine Community dies
Funeral services for Samuel Thomas, 56, a widely known and highly
respectable farmer at the Alpine community, who died at his home
on Thursday, June 11th, after a lingering illness, were conducted
on Friday morning at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Thomas Ferrill, of Cumberland
Presbyterian Church with burial in the Smith Grove cemetery.
He had been a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church for
many years with membership at Alpine.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Allie Dial Thomas; four daughters,
Mrs. Ida Ferrill, Mrs. Ida Smith, Mrs. Veachel Cooper, and Miss
Thomas; five sons, Orba, Verda, Sherlie, Alfred, and Willie Thomas;
and one brother, Anderson Thomas of near Monroe.
C.E. Freeman celebrates his 68th birthday
C.E. Freeman was honored on Wednesday, June 17, by a birthday celebration
it being the 68th anniversary of his birth. Seven of his ten children
were present at follows: Mrs. Colbert Peek, Mrs. Roy Williams, Mrs.
W.A. Maynord, and Miss Annette Freeman of Livingston, Morgan Waymon
and C. Allen Freeman of Livingston, and 19 grandchildren.
Among those present besides the family were Mr. and Mrs. Lee Wright,
Mr. and Mrs. Colbert Freeman and children, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Freeman,
and Sam Wilmoth, all of Algood, Mr. and Mrs. Alpha Brown and son
of Cookeville, Mr. Tubb of Crossville, Miss Edith Vann of Oakley,
and Mr. and Mrs. Talmadge Reed of Monterey, and others.
A delightful dinner had been prepared for fifty-three persons
and the occasion was enjoyed exceedingly.
Rites held for Mrs. Mary Arnold
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Frances Page Arnold, 74, wife of
James W. Arnold, of East Livingston, who died at her home on Thursday,
June 11, at 11:00 a.m. after an illness of several weeks, following
an attack of influenza, were conducted at the residence on Friday,
at 2:30 p.m., by the Rev. Henry C. Geiger, the Rev. Evie Tucker,
and the Rev. S.A.D. Smith, with burial in the Good Hope cemetery.
She had been a faithful member of the Missionary Baptist Church
for more than sixty years and was widely known and had many friends.
Besides her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Tessie
Rowe of Granite, Okla.; one sister, Mrs. Alice Hagan; and one brother,
Charles Page, both of Tompkinsville, KY; one step-son, R.B. Arnold
of Livingston; and one step-daughter, Mrs. Leila Hogan of Willow
Grove.
