Marriage Licenses issued during April
Twelve marriage licenses were issued by H.C. Swallows, county court
clerk, for the month of April.
They are as follows:
Jimmie Hall and Jossie Bilbrey, Sherman Lane and Maggie Jones, Truman
Hawkins and Lillie McClain, John Kirby and Alma Benson, Turner Upton
and Ostie Gunnels, Herman Copeland and Stella Gore, J.H. Neely and
Hallie Bledsoe, Dolphus Romines and Zenovia Phillips, Miles McClain
and Odell Neely, Arnold Almonrode and Inez Garrett, Herman Allen
and Lillian Bennett, and Lonnie Ledbetter and Myrtle Payton.
Funeral Services held for Elijah Gore, 17
Elijah Gore, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Will Gore, of near Livingston,
died at his home on Thursday, April 30, after a brief illness of
pneumonia.
Besides his parents, he is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Mavine
Pierce, Mrs. Ora Sidwell, and Mrs. Mary Lizzie Cravens.
Funeral serivces were conducted on Friday with burial in the Ledbetter
cemetery on Eagle Creek. H.A. Sells opens new grocery store.
H.A. Sells has opened a new grocery store
H.A. Sells has opened a new grocery store in the building formerly
occupied by the Vess Maynord Grocery and wil handle a line of staple
and fancy groceries and feeds. Mr. Sells also operates a grist mill
in an adjoining room in the same building.
The grocery room has been remodeled and repainted. Mr. Maynord
has moved his stock of groceries to the West Side Cafe on the west
side of the public square.
Biggest steer will be exhibited in Texas
A steer weighing more than a ton and a half wil be exhibited at
the $25,000,000 Texas Centennial Exposition which opens here June
6.
"Big Jim" once owned by the late Will Rogers, is said
to be the biggest steer in the world. He weighes 3,100 pounds, stands
five feet four inches at the withers and is ten feet long from head
to tail.
Services held for Mrs. Addie C. Mullins Ê Ê
Mrs. Addie Clark Mullins died at her home near Oakley, on Friday,
May 8th, at 4 p.m. after a brief illness.
She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Alice Hunnels Clark; two daughters,
Mrs. Hall Jolly and Miss Alice Mullins; a son, Charles Mullins;
three sisters, Mrs. Fount Arney of Willow Grove, Mrs. J.H. Murphy,
and Mrs. S.B. Harward, of Livingston; and two brothers, W.D. Clark
of Livingston and Turney Clark of near Oakley.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday at 10:00 a.m., with
burial in the Lillydale cemetery.
