Funeral services for Mrs. Dumie (Phillips) Eldridge, 89, of Monterey, were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2005, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home with Rev. Darrell Phillips and Rev. Tex Boles officiating.

Burial was in Whittaker Cemetery.

Mrs. Eldridge died Wednesday, July 20 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was a homemaker and a member of Union B Freewill Baptist Church.

Born January 1, 1916, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Mayford and Cora (Hargis) Phillips. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Andrew Morris; 2 daughters, Jewel Anderson and Mazelle Eldridge; 4 brothers, Oscar Phillips, Oliver Phillips, Roscoe Phillips, and Bachi Phillips; 4 sisters, Velvester Phillips, Laura McCan, Ethel Hargis, and Viola Howard; and a great granddaughter, Celeste Phillips.

Survivors include her husband of 73 years, Claude Eldridge of Monterey; a daughter and son-in-law, Willie Mae and A.G. Phillips of Monterey; 3 special nieces whom they raised as daughters, Betty Phillips and Katherine Blaylock and her husband, Dewey, all of Monterey, and Ruth Guffey and her husband, Lyndon, of Bloomington Springs; 14 grandchildren, Darrell, Stephen, Billy, Woody, Glenda, Karen, Janice, Rita, Cindy, Regina, Gail, Jerry, Louise, and Tracy; 22 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; a special great-great nephew, Mitchell Swallows, whom they also raised; and a special great niece, Gail Regan.
