The work of pouring the concrete for the forms of the foundation
of the Livingston City and Fire Hall has begun and the work of excavation
for the large basement is well underway.
The building will be built of native stone, quarrled near Livingston,
and will house the fire department and provide offices for the mayor
and aldermen, and the town marshall. It is located on the northwest
corner of the public square.
The work is being done under a WPA project.
Funeral Services Held for Mrs. Ridley Carmack
Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah H. Carmack, 75, wife of Ridley
Carmack, of the Third District of Overton County, who died at her
home near Campground on Thursday, November 28 at 4:00 p.m., of paralysis,
were conducted at the Campground Cumberland Presbyterian Church,
on Saturday, by the Rev. S. Dewey Organ, pastor of the M.E. Church,
and Roy A.A. Cunningham and the Rev. Tommy Reed with burial in the
cemetery there.
Mrs. Carmack had been in failing health for several months. On
last Sunday, she was stricken with paralysis, which was followed
shortly by another stroke.
Besides her husband, she is survived by ten children, as follows,
five daughters, Mrs. Ras Phillips of Hooker, OK, Mrs. Ed Sullivan,
Mrs. Floyd Davis, Mrs. Barlow Smith, and Mrs. Pete Myers, and five
sons, Lee Amos, Stanley, Charlie, and Haskell Carmack. She is also
survived by 37 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She had been a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church for
many years, and was one of the most widely known and most beloved
women of her community.
She was born and reared and lived all of her life in the community
of her death.
Active pallbearers were Sewell Pennington, Charles Hawkins, Eb
Wright, R.L. Eldridge, Clarence Davis, and John Huffine.
