A man riding a lawn mower across Rickman Road (Old Highway 42) was struck by a small pickup around 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22.

According to reports, Daniel Hogue, 49, of Rickman, was attempting to cross the road toward Rickman Shop-Rite, at a point near a blind hill. A 1998 Chevrolet S-10 pickup, driven by a 17 year-old boy from Rickman, came over the hill in the northbound lane as the lawnmower was crossing.

Hogue was knocked off of the lawn mower. He was transported by Overton CountyAmbulance Service to the fire hall of Rickman Volunteer Fire Department, where he was then transported by Life Force helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Trooper Marty Philpot of Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated the incident.
