Luther Deamus Hammons
Funeral services for Mr. Luther Deamus Hammons, 85, of Cookeville, were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 2002, from Shady Grove Freewill Baptist Church with Bro. Ovle Tinch officiating. Burial was in Shady Grove Cemetery with Whitson Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Hammons died Tuesday, April 16 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was a farmer and a member of the Freewill Baptist Faith.

Born August 11, 1916, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Carroll Quitman and Armildia Ann (Frence) Hammons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virgie Othie (Ashburn) Hammons; and two sons, Calvin Hammons and Frank Lee Hammons.

Survivors include three sons, Joe D. Hammons, Overton County, and Bruce Hammons and Ray Hammons, both of Cookeville; three daughters, Retha Looper, Rickman, Jean Patton, Cookeville, and Milda Jackson, Monterey; five grandchildren, Joel Hammons, Billy Hammons, David Patton, Becky Shaver, and Sara Jackson; and five great grandchildren, Ethan Hammons, Kaitlyn Hammons, Emily Hammons, Hannah Hammons, and Samuel Shaver.

 

Bonnie Kate (Smith) Scott
Funeral services for Mrs. Bonnie Kate (Smith) Scott, 87, of Sabina, OH, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, April 24, 2002, from the Assembly of God Church in Wilmington, OH with Rev. Richard Bracht officiating. Burial will be in Clinton Memory Gardens in Wilming-ton with Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home of Wilmington in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Scott died Friday, April 19 at Autumn Years Nursing Center in Sabina. She was formerly a worker at Model Cleaners.

Born September 27, 1914, in Livingston, she was the daughter of the late John and Minerva (Ferrell) Jackson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three husbands, Lauren Ooten, Charles H. Smith, and Lee Scott; a stepson, Ron Scott; a stepdaughter, Dorothy Stollings; and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, James and Michele Ooten, Naples, FL; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Georgia and Jack Hopping, Easley, SC, Alice Goldsberry, Englewood, OH, and Brenda and Danny Miller, Wilmington; two stepsons and a stepdaughter-in-law, Charles W. Smith, Macon, GA, and Don and Barbara Smith, Wilmington; two stepdaughters and a stepson-in-law, Nancy and Frank Wilt, Michigan, and Carol, Missouri; a sister, Mable Sherrill, Livingston; six grandchildren, Sherry Cassels, Rick Ooten, Kathy Ooten Saxton, John Cooper, Kris Hughes, and Wayne Hughes; six step-grandchildren, Kenny Stollings, Sharon Vickers, Jackie Smith, Mike Smith, David Smith, and Gary Smith; several great grandchildren; and two great- great grandchildren.
