Grant Swallows Again Named Player Of Week

For the second consecutive week, Tennessee Tech senior quarterback Grant Swallows has been named Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

Swallows set two school records to lead the Golden Eagles to a 35-27 road victory over Jacksonville State University Saturday evening, Nov. 3, one week after setting the school standard with five touchdown passes to earn his first weekly recognition from the league.

In the win at JSU, Swallows passed for 412 yards and accounted for 419 yards in total offense, both breaking school records. The senior from Livingston was 24 for 37 passing, including touchdown passes to Craig Melton, Oscar Bonds and Ronnie Sidler. Swallows also rushed five times for seven yards, including a crucial 17-yard scramble for a first down on Tech's final scoring drive of the high-scoring contest.

With his performance, Swallows has now passed for 1,910 yards in the 2001 season, and has raised his career total to 4,185. He needs 141 more yards to break the single-season record for passing and he needs 137 yards to break the Tech career passing mark.

The 1997 Tennessee Class AAA Mr. Football following his senior season at Livingston Academy, Swallows currently ranks second in the OVC in passing efficiency and total offense, and third in passing yards per game.

Swallows and 13 other Golden Eagle seniors play their final game in Tucker Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 10 when Tech hosts Tennessee State at 2 p.m.
