LA Runners Participate
In State Meet

Four members of the Livingston Academy Cross Country Team participated
in the Class A-AA State Meet held Saturday, Nov. 3 at Steeplechase
LA Cross Country Coach Jamie Loftis said, "They did real well.
I was pleased."
The girls division had 164 runners. LA's Deidra Garrett finished
number 31 with a 21:12.87, averaging the mile in 7:04.2.
Livingston's Heather Petry finished 53rd with a 22:05.03.
The state's top runner in the girls division was Kori Bledsoe of
Fairview with an 18:57.34, and a mile average of 6:26.9.
The boys division had 178 entries. Colin Smith was the top runner
for LA, finishing number 86 with an 18:46.84, for a mile averaged
Livingston Academy's Brandon Tavalin and Eric Huddleston crossed
the finish line numbers 94 and 95 respectively. Tavalin ran an 18:57.94,
and Huddleston ran an 18:59.03.
The state's top runner in the boys division was Austin Weaver of
Franklin Road Academy with a 15:19.79, and a mile average of 5:06.6.

Lady Wildcats Receive Region
The 2001 Lady Wildcats Soccer Team received the 2001 Regional Championship
plaque this week to go along with the 2001 District Championship

Grant Swallows Again
Named Player Of Week
For the second consecutive week, Tennessee Tech senior quarterback
Grant Swallows has been named Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player
of the Week.
Swallows set two school records to lead the Golden Eagles to a
35-27 road victory over Jacksonville State University Saturday evening,
Nov. 3, one week after setting the school standard with five touchdown
passes to earn his first weekly recognition from the league.
In the win at JSU, Swallows passed for 412 yards and accounted
for 419 yards in total offense, both breaking school records. The
senior from Livingston was 24 for 37 passing, including touchdown
passes to Craig Melton, Oscar Bonds and Ronnie Sidler. Swallows
also rushed five times for seven yards, including a crucial 17-yard
scramble for a first down on Tech's final scoring drive of the high-scoring
With his performance, Swallows has now passed for 1,910 yards in
the 2001 season, and has raised his career total to 4,185. He needs
141 more yards to break the single-season record for passing and
he needs 137 yards to break the Tech career passing mark.
The 1997 Tennessee Class AAA Mr. Football following his senior
season at Livingston Academy, Swallows currently ranks second in
the OVC in passing efficiency and total offense, and third in passing
yards per game.
Swallows and 13 other Golden Eagle seniors play their final game
in Tucker Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 10 when Tech hosts Tennessee
State at 2 p.m.
