Sign-Ups Slated For Outlaw Football Team

It's football time in Overton County. It is time once again for children to strap on their helmets and start playing football as Overton County Outlaws begin their 12th season this year.

Sign-ups will be held at Livingston Academy Saturday, July 21 and Saturday, July 28 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Children from the ages of 7 to 11 are invited to participate.

Overton County Outlaws have a proud tradition of training today's young players for the next level of football. Many Livingston Academy players start out playing football for the Outlaws.

Grant Swallows, starting quarterback for the Tennessee Technological University Golden Eagles, began his football career with the Outlaws.

Four-year Assistant Coach J.J. Jones will lead the Outlaws this year. He said, "I just want to keep this a top-notch program and follow in the path laid out by previous coaches.

"When I go to the meetings, everyone knows the Outlaw program and they want to beat us. We are always considered the team to beat in the district and I just want that tradition to keep going.

"I have a great set of assistant coaches returning to help."

Coaching the 10 and 11 year-old division are Roger Barlow, David Holt, and Matt Jolley. Coaching the 7, 8, and 9 year-old division are Kelly Hill, Richard Brown, Mark Lee, Dion Pincheon, and Chris Lee.

Practices will begin Monday, July 30 and will be held Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays 6 p.m. to 7:35 p.m. each week

Games will begin Saturday, August 18 and will continue until around the end of October.

For more information about the Outlaw program, call Coach Jones at (931) 397-5631 cell, (931) 498-3122 home, or (931) 823-2735 work. Messages may be left at any of these numbers if Coach Jones is unavailable.
