The Livingston Academy soccer team faced the York Dragons in the first round of the district tournament on Monday, May 7 at the Livingston Academy field.

The 'Cats had no trouble with the Dragons, defeating them by a score of 5-1. LA took 25 shots on goal. Scoring goals for the 'Cats, Colin Smith scored 2 goals, Joseph McGill scored 1 goal, Ricky Schindler scored 1 goal, and Silas Stoddart scored 1 goal.

LA Soccer Coach Rick Sells said, “We played an excellent game against York. We kept them pushed back in the second half and were basically able to do everything we wanted."

The win advanced the ‘Cats to the District 9-A/AA championship game where they met Mount Juliet Christian.

LA struggled from the start with Mt. Juliet, due in part to the absence of key defensive players, Josh Krack, Bo Byers, and Eric Huddleston. Mt. Juliet handed the 'Cats their third loss of the season by a score of 4-1. Joseph McGill scored the 'Cats only goal.

The loss placed LA’s record at 10-3 and 1 tie, and gave the 'Cats the runner-up spot in District 9-A/AA.

"We were short handed on defense," Coach Sells said. "We tried to adjust but it just wasn’t the same. I hope we get a chance to play them again."

The District 9-A/AA coaches recently voted for the All-District Team. Making the team from LA were Colin Smith, Joseph McGill, and Matt O’Brien.

The 'Cats advanced to the regional tournament where they were to travel to Springfield on Tuesday, May 15.
